#1 Wartburg (Iowa) Results | Pacific (Ore.) Results | # 3 Coe (Iowa) Results | # 27 Olivet (Mich.) Results

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team compiled an overall record of 1-3 at the 2010 Desert Duals hosted by No. 1 nationally ranked Wartburg (Iowa) College today (Monday, December 20) at the Flamingo Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Yellow Jackets, now 4-7 overall this season in dual matches, lost to host Wartburg in the first round, 39-3, beat Pacific (Ore.) University in the second round, 38-14, fell to No. 3 Coe (Iowa) College in the third round, 36-12 and lost to No. 27 Olivet (Mich.) College in the fourth and final round, 27-18.

B-W was led by senior and No. 10 nationally ranked 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) with a 3-1 record, including one pin and  now has a seasonal record of 18-1.  In addition,  senior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll went 2-2 with a pin and now has a seasonal record of 10-3.  Senior 165-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/Pymatuning Valley), junior 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley), senior 133-pounder Phillip Payne (Woodmere/Orange) and junior 141-pounder Grant Steward (Columbus/Worthington Kilburn) all posted records of 2-2.  Junior 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/Lake) and sophomore 184-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/Villa Angela St. Joseph) each picked up a win by pin and decision respectively.

In the match with Wartburg, Scavuzzo was the lone Yellow Jacket to secure with a 4-2 decision over Ben Scott.  

Against Pacific, B-W got pins from Stoll and Jones.   The Yellow Jackets also picked up victories from Georgian by decision, Leonhard by technical fall and forfeit wins by Dombrady, Payne and Steward.  Scavuzzo dropped his first match of the season as Pacific’s Caleb Malychewski pinned him at the 4:07 mark.

In the match with Coe,  B-W got victories from Scavuzzo and Stoll.  Scavuzzo bounced back from his first loss of the season by pinning Scott King at the 6:09 mark and Stoll picked up his win by forfeit.

Against Olivet,  the Yellow Jackets got a pin from Payne and decision victories by Dombrady, Steward, Leonhard and Scavuzzo.

The B-W grapplers will return to action after the Holiday break when they travel to University Heights to take on cross-town rival John Carroll University in the first Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
