B-W Wrestling Team Finishes 1-3 At The Mount Union Duals

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior 165-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) and classmate and 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) each had perfect 4-0 records, but the Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team compiled a 1-3 overall record at the 2010 University of Mount Union Duals today (Saturday, November 20) in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.

The Yellow Jackets, now 2-3 overall this season in dual matches, lost to Lycoming (Pa.) College in the first round, 25-17; beat Kings (Pa.) College in the second round, 26-19; lost to the College of Mount St. Joseph, 31-21, in the third round; and lost to No.21-ranked Wilkes (Pa.) University, 43-8, in the final round.  B-W was hindered by having to forfeit at both 184 and 197 pounds due to injuries to its grapplers.

Leonhard defeated Lycoming’s Jonathan Secor, 2-0; won a major decision over Kings Frank Marinucci, 8-0; pinned Mount St. Joseph’s Cory Disbennett in 4:27; and defeated Wilkes’ Brandon Dixon, 7-3 en route to his 4-0 mark as he improved to 8-2 this season.  Scavuzzo earned a major decision over Lycoming’s Jefferson Thomas, 11-2; won another major with a 10-0 whitewash of King’s Jerry Robbins; pinned Mt. St. Joe’s Justin Meineke in 2:05; and scored a technical fall against Wilkes’ Mike Bowersox en route to his 4-0 slate as he improved to 9-0 this season.

In addition to Leonhard and Scavuzzo, junior 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley) and freshman 133-pounder Andrew Taylor (Columbus/ Worthington Kilbourne) each fashioned 3-1 marks and both junior 141-pounder Grant Steward (Columbus/ Worthington KIlbourne) and junior 285-poundr Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake) each had a 2-2 mark.  For the season, Dombrady has a 7-3 record, Taylor is 7-3, Steward is 5-4 and Jones is 5-4 overall.

The B-W grapplers will host its first home match on Tuesday, Nov. 30 against NCAA Division II Tiffin University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
