Yellow Jackets Place Fifth at 2009 OAC Tournament; Scavuzzo Wins Title and is NCAA Qualifier

B-W scored 29.5 team points. Heidelberg College won its fourth straight OAC title with 101 points.
In addition to Scavuzzo, senior 165-pounder Joe Incorvaia (Medina/ Highland) reached the championship match at 165 pounds and senior 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa Hills/ Avon Lake) reached the consolation match final.
Scavuzzo took home the OAC title in the 174-pound weight class by defeating Mount Union College’s Andy Jenkins 5-1 in the championship. To reach the finals, Scavuzzo defeated John Carroll University’s Travis Hammer, 6-1, in the first round and pinned Ohio Northern University’s Collin Swick in the semifinals. He enters the NCAA tourney with a 24-9 record this season and a two-year slate of 45-24.
Incorvaia beat Mitch King of Muskingum, 5-2, in his first match and then beat #2-seed Mike Mannypenny of Mount Union College in the semifinals, 8-6 in overtime, to reach the finals. In the championship match, Incorvaia lost to #1-seed Matt Curley of Heidelberg, 11-3. He ends his season at 22-13 and his career with a 55-45 mark.
Bucher lost his first match to #3-seed Jeff Penny of ONU, 12-5, before defeating #7-seed Tim Brown of Wilmington College by technical fall, 16-0 at the 2:30 mark, and then beat Michael Halko of Muskingum, 6-4, to reach the consolation final. In the final, Penny again beat Bucher, but this time it was much closer with an 8-7 decision. He ends his senior season with a 24-10 record to tie Scavuzzo for the most wins on the team this season and ends his career with an impressive 84-36 record, including three straight 20-win campaigns.
The only other Yellow Jacket to earn a win was freshman 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley), who had a 1-2 record and defeated Sean Fiesternel of Muskingum by technical fall, 15-0 and 7:00, in the first round of the consolation round. Dombrady, who transferred to B-W from Notre Dame College (of Ohio) in January, ends his first season as a Yellow Jacket with a 5-6 mark.
