John Carroll Wrestlers Defeat Baldwin-Wallace, 24-14, in University Hts.; Summa Tourney is Saturday
BEREA, OHIO -- The John Carroll University wrestling team defeated Baldwin-Wallace College, 24-14, tonight (Tuesday, February 3, 2009) in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights.
With their win, the Blue Streaks improve to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. With its loss, B-W is now 2-20 overall and 0-6 in the OAC and next competes this Saturday, Feb. 7 when its hosts the 23rd Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament in the Fieldhouse at the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea. Wrestling begins at 10:00 a.m.
Individually for the Yellow Jackets and against JCU, senior 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa Hills/ Avon Lake) improved to 19-8 overall and 3-3 in conference matches with a 5-0 win against Greg Stolfer. Junior 141-pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin) defeated John Carroll’s Kevin Nycz, 11-6, and ran his record to 4-13 overall and 2-0 in OAC dual matches. Senior 165-pounder Joe Incorvaia (Medina/ Highland) and sophomore 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) recorded back-to-back major decisions over Sean Gill and Travis Hammer, respectively. Incorvaia won his match by an 11-1 count to improve to 17-11 overall and 4-2 in OAC dual matches. Scavuzzo upped his record to 19-8 overall and 6-0 in OAC dual matches. Scavuzzo’s record at 174 pounds now stands at 7-2.
In addition, the B-W versus JCU match was taped and will be shown on a delayed basis by SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com) at 12:00 noon and at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4 and at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5.
