B-W Wrestling Team Drop Two Matches to Complete the Wilkes (Pa.) University Duals

BEREA, OHIO —  The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost to No. 20th-ranked Wilkes (Pa.) University, 40-3, in its third of four matches at the Wilkes (Pa.) University John Reese Duals today (Thursday, January 3, 2007) in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  B-W also fell to No. 19th-ranked Oneonta (N.Y.) State University, 24-15, in the final dual match of the meet. 
 
The Yellow Jackets are now 4-11-1 overall.
 
Despite the loss against Wilkes, freshman 184-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) won a 3-1 decision over Chris Smith.
 
Against Oneonta State, scoring victories were 133-pound junior Brian Bucher (Ottawa Hills/ Avon Lake) with a 14-8 overtime win against Oneonta's Walter Moore.  In addition to Bucher, junior 157-pounder Joe Incorvaia (Medina/ Highland) outlasted Devan Wynn Witman, 4-2.  Senior 165-pounder Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) remained unbeaten for the season after a 9-5 decision over Dave Ballard. In the 184-pound weight class, Scavuzzo earned an 11-4 decision, this time over Wala Canario.  B-W's last win came in the form of 197-pounder Brian Haines (Amanda/ Teays Valley) as he scored a 7-5 win over Mike Diorio.
 
With his victory at 165 pounds, Russo, ranked second in the latest NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) poll at his weight class, improved to a perfect 16-0 overall. A year ago, Russo placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament and was the Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pound champion.
  
In exhibition match action, all of B-W's wins came against Wilkes.  At 157-pounds, sophomore Cody Quick (Mount Vernon) scored an 8-2 decision, senior 174-pounder Antonio Campea (Hinckley/ Padua Franciscan) won, 3-2, and also at 174-pounds, freshman Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) won by the score of 11-7.
 
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, January 8 when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to face fourth-ranked Heidelberg College in the Seiberling Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
