B-W Wrestlers Fall to St. John (Minn.) in Final Match at Budd Whitehill Duals
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team fell to St.John (Minn.) University, 30-11, today (Saturday, January 12, 2008) in its second of two dual matches on the second day of the Lycoming (Pa.) College Budd Whitehill Duals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
With its loss, B-W falls to 5-15-1.
Despite the loss, three Yellow Jackets scored wins. Junior 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa Hills/Avon Lake) recorded an 18-2 technical fall over St. John’s Luke Opsahl and junior 157-pounder Joe Incorvaia (Medina/Highland) won by a 2-0 decision over Roger Anderson. Scoring the final win of the day for B-W was senior 165-poinder All-American Gino Russo (Northfield Center/Nordonia) with a 9-5 decision over Matt Schrupp.
With his victory at 165 pounds, Russo, ranked second in the latest NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) poll at his weight class, improved to a perfect 22-0 overall. A year ago, Russo placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament and was the Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pound champion.
B-W will return to Berea to host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet on Tuesday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
