Russo leads Baldwin-Wallace College Wrestling Team to Fifth Place at the RIT Tournament
BEREA, OHIO -- Senior All-American Gino Russo (Northfield Center/Nordonia) won the 165-pound weight class as the 17th ranked Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team finished fifth of 14 schools at the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament in Rochester, New York.
B-W scored 87 points as a team, while Rhode Island College won the team title with 121.5 points.
On the day, Russo went 4-0, defeating Frank Heffernan of Wilkes University in the championship by a 7-2 decision. In addition to Russo, also placing high for the Yellow Jackets was senior 174-pounder Jeremy Feador (North Olmsted) who placed second and senior Antonio Campea (Hinckley/Parma Padua) who placed fourth in the 174 pound weight class. Feador went unbeaten for three matches in the winner's bracket until the final match, which he dropped a decision to Greg Hurd of Wesleyan University. Campea lost his first match, but won three in a row in the consolation bracket, before losing the third place match to Craig Becker of Oswego State.
Placing sixth for the Yellow Jackets were freshman Cody Connell (Twinsburg) at 141 pounds and freshman Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) at 184 pounds.
The Yellow Jackets wrestlers will be back in action on Saturday, December 8 when they travel to Greenville, Pennsylvania to wrestle Thiel College at 6:00 p.m.
