B-W Wrestlers Top Muskingum College in Second Dual Meet at Bud Whitehill Duals
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team beat Muskingum College, 33-9, this evening (Friday, January 11, 2008) in its second of two dual matches today at the Lycoming (Pa.) College Bud Whitehill Duals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
With its win, B-W improves to 5-13-1.
B-W secured the win as seven Yellow Jackets won matches. Junior 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa/ Avon Lake) won 17-2 as he recorded a technical fall. He was followed by sophomore 141-pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin) who won by major decision 11-2. Senior 149-pounder Scott Haber (Brook Park/ Parma Normandy) gave B-W its third consecutive match victory when he won with a 6-2 decision. Senior 165-pound All-American Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) remained undefeated with a pin at the 6:45 mark. Then, senior 174-pound Jeremy Feador (North Olmsted), freshman 185-pound Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge), and senior 197-pounder Brian Haines (Amanda/ Teays Valley) tallied three consecutive 7-2 wins.
With his victory at 165 pounds, Russo, ranked second in the latest NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) poll at his weight class, improved to a perfect 20-0 overall. A year ago, Russo placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament and was the Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pound champion. Bucher’s win improved his seasonal mark to 15-4. Schubert improved to 6-14, Haber improved to 5-8, Feador improved to 10-8, Scavuzzo improved to 10-7, and Haines improved to 5-2.
Tomorrow (Saturday, January 12) B-W will face off against Springfield (Mass.) College at 9:00 a.m. in the second day of action at the Lycoming College Bud Whitehill Duals. Following the second day of action, B-W will return to Berea to host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College in a home OAC dual meet on Tuesday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m.
