B-W Wrestlers Lose to Hunter (N.Y.) in Second Match at Wilkes (Pa.) University Duals
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost to Hunter (N.Y.) College, 26-18, in its second of three matches today (Thursday, January 3, 2007) at the Wilkes University Duals in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jackets are now 4-9-1 overall.
Despite the loss for the Yellow Jackets, junior 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa/ Avon Lake) won won by major decision, 15-3; senior junior 157-pounder Joe Incorvaia (Medina/ Highland) won by major decision, 10-0; senior 165-pound Division III All-American Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Macedonia Nordonia) won by major decision, 11-3; and freshman 184-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) won by forfeit.
With his victory at 165 pounds, Russo, ranked second in the latest NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) poll at his weight class, improved to a perfect 15-0 overall. A year ago, Russo placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament and was the Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pound champion. Bucher’s win improved his seasonal mark to 11-4. With his win, Incorvaia is now 7-7. Scavuzzo is now 10-7 overall, including a 7-6 slate at 184 pounds.
Following its last match at Wilkes, the Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, January 8 when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to face fourth-ranked Heidelberg College in the Seiberling Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
