B-W Wrestlers Lose to SUNY-Cortland in First Day of Action at Whitehill Duals

BEREA, OHIO   The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team lost State University of New York - Cortland University, 37-6, today (Friday, January 11, 2008) in its first of two dual matches today at the Lycoming (Pa.) College Bud Whitehill Duals in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. 

Despite the loss for the Yellow Jackets, junior 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa/ Avon Lake) won by decision, 6-4 and senior 165-pound Division III All-American Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Macedonia Nordonia) won by decision, 7-4.

With his victory at 165 pounds, Russo, ranked second in the latest NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) poll at his weight class, improved to a perfect 19-0 overall.  A year ago, Russo placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Tournament and was the Ohio Athletic Conference 165-pound champion. Bucher’s win improved his seasonal mark to 14-4.

B-W will face Muskingum College later this afternoon at 5:30 p.m
