BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team finished with a 1-1 record today (Friday, January 12, 2007) on the first day of the 2007 Budd Whitehill Dual Championships at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jackets will wrestle two more times tomorrow at the Whitehill Duals.
In its first match, B-W lost to SUNY-Cortland, 28-14. Despite the loss, sophomore 149-pounder Mohamed Salem (Westlake), junior 165-pounder Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) and senior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) all won. Salem won by technical fall, 16-1, Russo won a 3-2 decision and Kmetz won by a pen.
In its second match, B-W defeated St.John's (Minn.) University 29-17. B-W was led by Kmetz and junior 174-pounder Jeremy Feador (North Olmsted) and Salem, who all won by pins. Also recieving wins were sophomore 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Ottawa Hills/Avon Lake) by a 11-8 decision, Russo by a 16-0 technical fall and freshman 197-pounder Arlon Bristler (Pepper Pike/Orange) by a 5-4 decision.
Tomorrow they will face Springfield (Mass.) College at 9:00 a.m. Their second match will be determined by thier results from the first match.
