BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team had a 2-2 record today (Saturday, November 18, 2006) at the annual Olivet College Comet Dual Match Tournament in Olivet, Michigan.
This was the second week of competition in 2006-2007 for the Yellow Jacket grapplers. B-W is now 4-3 overall.
In their opening match, the Yellow Jackets defeated Tri-State (Ind.) University, 25-13. Following a loss to the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse, 24-12, B-W lost to host Olivet, 34-6, and then beat Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology. Highlighting the day for B-W was sophomore 149-pounder Mohamed Salem (Westlake) as he had a 4-0 record for the weekend. In addition, sophomore 133-pounder Brian Bucher (Avon Lake) was 3-1 and junior 165-pounder Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) was 3-0.
In its victory against Tri-State, Bucher, junior RayShawn Eatmon (East Cleveland/ Shaw), Salem, sophomore 157-pounder Joe Incorvaia (Medina/ Highland), Russo and junior 285-pounder Mike Pelton (Parma/ Normandy) all won by decision and freshman 197-pounder Tavis Sokolow (Avon Lake) won by technical fall, 18-0.
Despite the loss to UWL, freshman 125-pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin), Bucher, Salem and Russo all won by decision.
In its loss versus host Olivet, Salem was the only victor.
In its final match, Schubert, Russo and junior 174-pounder Antonio Campea (Hinckley/ Parma Padua) all won by decision, Bucher and Salem each won by major decision and Eatmon and Sokolow each won by pin.
After two weeks of competition, Salem and Bucher each lead the team with six victories and a 6-1 record. Russo is second with five wins and is 5-1, and Feador is tied for fourth with four wins and is 4-1 overall.
The Yellow Jacket wrestlers will be back in action on Tuesday, November 28 when they host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg College in The Lou Higgins and Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Heidelberg was the pick of the OAC Coaches to win the 2007 OAC title and B-W was picked second.
