Eliminated at the NCAA Division III National Tournament
BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin-Wallace College senior wrestlers Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva) and Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) were eliminated today (March 3) at the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey.
Carman, a returning NCAA Division III All-American at 197 pounds, was seeded seventh and finished with a 1-2 record. Kmetz, who was unseeded, was 0-2.
Carman lost his first match to fifth-seeded Jay Figgins of Loras (Iowa) College, 6-4, then defeated Nicholas Calandrino of Ithaca (N.Y.) College, 10-6, and then lost to Matthew Chrzanarski of York (Pa.) College, 16-11. He finished the season with a 10-2 record and ended his career with a 72-17 mark.
Kmetz was defeated in his first match 2-1 in double overtime by fifth-seeded Tom Snyder of Lycoming (Pa.) College and was eliminated when he was pinned by fourth-seeded Michael Hayes of Wisconsin Steven's Point in 5:22. Kmetz finished this season with a 23-4 record and has a three-year career mark of 72-15.
Carman ends his career as two-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion. At last year's national tourney, Carman had a 4-2 record and earned NCAA Division III All-American honors with an eighth place finish.
Kmetz made his first trip to the national tournament and was the 2006 OAC champion and a two-time OAC tourney runner-up.
