Compete at the NCAA Division III National Tournament
BEREA, OHIO — Baldwin-Wallace College senior wrestlers Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva) and Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) are competing today (March 3) and tomorrow (March 4) at the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey.
Carman is a returning NCAA Division III All-American at 197 pounds by virtue of his eighth place finish a year ago. He is seeded seventh in the national tournament. Carman is a two-time Ohio Athletic Conference champion who will carry a 71-15 career mark into the tourney, including a 9-0 slate this year. Despite having knee surgery just prior to the start of this season, Carman has recovered and dominated his nine opponents so far. He will open national tourney action with a bye in the first round and then face Jay Figgins of Loras, Iowa College. The winner advances to the quarterfinal round of the winners bracket. At last year's national tourney, Carman had a 4-2 record.
Kmetz is making is first trip to the national tournament and is unseeded at 285 pounds. He will carry an impressive 72-13 career mark, including a 23-2 slate this year into the national event. Kmetz is the 2006 OAC champion and a two-time OAC tourney runner-up. He was ranked eighth at 285 pounds much of this season. Kmetz will open national tourney action with a first round bye and then face fifth-seeded Torn Snyder of Lycoming, Pa. College. The winner advances to the quarterfinal round.
