Kmetz is Named Most Valuable Wrestler
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team, led by junior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) and senior174-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Ga./ Brookstone), finished fourth of 18 teams at the annual Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology Tournament on December 3. Kmetz and Sebek both won individual titles at RIT and Kmetz was named tournament Most Valuable Wrestler.
Kmetz finished the tournament with a 4-0 record with two pins including a pin against Derek Ankney of John Carroll to win the 285-pound title. He improves his seasonal mark to a perfect 12-0 overall and his career slate to 61-11 (an .847 winning percentage). Sebek had a 5-0 record to win his 174-pound weight class individual title. He improves his seasonal record to 10-3 overall (a .769 winning percentage) and now has a 48-41 career record (a .539 winning percentage).
In addition to Kmetz and Sebek, freshman 149-pounder Muhamed Salem (Westlake) placed second with a 4-1 mark including a pin, sophomore Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) placed third at 157 pounds with a 6-1 record and freshman Brian Bucher (Toledo) went 4-2 at 133 pounds.
After three weeks of competition, Russo tops the team in victories with 14 wins and is 14-1 overall with a .933 winning percentage. Kmetz and his 12 wins rank second and Sebek's 10 victories rank third. In addition, Salem is fourth with a 9-2 record with a .818 winning percentage and Bucher is fifth at 8-5 overall with a .615 winning percentage.
The Yellow Jacket grapplers will be in action on Tuesday, Dec. 13 when they travel to Ada for an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against Ohio Northern at the ONU Sports Center. The dual match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
