Ohio Athletic Conference Dual Match in New Concord
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College wrestling team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College, 24-22, in a thrilling come-from-behind victory in New Concord.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-13 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. Muskingum falls to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.
B-W trailed the Fighting Muskies by seven points at 22-15 heading in the final two individual matches. Senior 197-pounder Devin Carman (Ashtabula/ Geneva) defeated Tony Drew, 6-0, to cut the Muskingum lead to 22-18 going into the final bout. Senior 285-pounder Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) scored six points with a pin against Muskingum's Jake Daniels giving the Yellow Jackets the 24-22 victory.
In addition to Carman and Kmetz, senior 125-pounder Mike Ham (Concord/ Notre Dame-Cathederal Latin)won his match by forfeit, sophomore 157-pounder Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) increased his team-leading season win total to 24 and is now 24-2 overall by defeating T.J. Brown by decision, 12-5. Junior T. Terry (Bedford/ St. Peter Chanel) won his 165-pound match defeating Aaron Gramann by decision, 13-6. Senior 174-pounder Sterling Sebek (Columbus, Ga./ Brookstone) won his match by decision with the score of 7-5.
B-W will return to the mat this Saturday, Feb. 4 when it hosts the 20th Annual John Summa Tournament in the Lou Higgins Field House. Action is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
