Baldwin-Wallace College Junior Andrew Scavuzzo is the OAC Wrestler of the Week

BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin-Wallace College junior 174-pound wrestler Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) is this week’s Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.  Scavuzzo earned the conference’s first award of the 2009-10 season for posting a 4-0 record during the first two weeks of the campaign.

Scavuzzo, a history major who hopes to teach and coach following graduation, defeated all four of his opponents by decision and dominated the competition by outscoring it 24-1. He had a 3-0 record at the season-opening B-W Quad Meet on Nov. 7 as he defeated Nick Terry of the College of Mount St. Joseph, 5-0, at 184 pounds and then beat both Lycoming (Pa.) College’s Joshua Gochnauer, 6-0, and Thiel (Pa.) College’s Alec Miller, 3-0, at 174 pounds. In B-W’s 34-13 dual match victory last Saturday, Nov. 14 versus Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University’s Jacob Kornblatt, 10-1, at 174 pounds.

A year ago, Scavuzzo won the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference title at 174 pounds and represented B-W at the NCAA Division III National Meet. He enters this Saturday’s Waynesburg (Pa.) University Duals with a 49-26 career record with 13 pins.
