BEREA, OHIO -- Two members of the Baldwin-Wallace College Swimming & Diving Teams have been named OAC Swimmers of the Week. Sophomore Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshman Ambica Iyengar (INDIA) both earned the honor for their performances last week.
Grilli, was named OAC men's swimmer of the week for his performance in a Yellow Jacket victory against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College, 144-88, last Friday in Berea. In that meet, Grilli placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.43 and in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:31.95. He was also a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team that posted a top time of 1:31.96. He will share the honor with John Carroll's Matt Dorsch.
Ambica Iyengar, a native of the country of India who was swimming her second northern college meet and is a freshman at B-W, was named as the OAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the second consecutive week. Iyengar, who came to the United States from India just after Christmas, has only been on the B-W campus for two weeks and is already making an impact on the women’s swim team. She earned the honor for her efforts in a 123-118 loss to Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) on Friday. Despite the loss, Iyengar finished first in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.30) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.63).
Iyengar was also named Swimmer of the Week for her efforts in a 122-82 dual match victory against Erie (N.Y.) C.C. Iyengar won the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.62) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.27) and swam on the winning 400-yard medley relay team (4:20.99).
The Yellow Jacket swimming & diving teams are scheduled to compete this Saturday, Jan. 29 in a dual meet against Westminster (Pa.) College at 1:00 p.m.
