BW Women’s Golf Team Wins SUNY Cortland Tri-Match

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA -- The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University women’s golf team won the first tournament of its spring season as the Yellow Jackets placed first of three schools at the SUNY Cortland Tri-Match today (Tuesday, March 6, 2012) on the Norman Course of the Barefoot Landing Resort.
BW had 370 total strokes, six less than second place SUNY Cortland and third place Point Park (Pa.) University had 441 strokes.
Individually, junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) tied with SUNY Cortland’s Kalin Merkley for medalist honors with an 85 on the par-72 and 5,847-yard Norman Course. She was followed by sophomore All-OAC player Emilee Woolf (Ravenna) with a 93, sophomore All-OAC player Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/ Christian) had a 94, sophomore Rebecca Jones (Hilliard/ Darby) had a 98 and both junior All-OAC player Brooke Hamilton (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) and sophomore Sarah Allred (Akron/ Green) carded 100s..
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25 at the University of Mount Union Invitational Tournament at the Tannenhauf Golf Club.
A year ago, the BW women’s golf team fashioned an 83-18 overall record, won five tournament titles, including the 2011 OAC title, and placed 15th at the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the Division III National Tournament three times during its 12-year existence.
