B-W's Campbell is OAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year

Alyson Campbell
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College first-year women's golf coach Alyson Campbell returned to her alma mater this fall to coach golf and assist Cheri Harrer's basketball team. A native of Salem, Ohio and a former standout women's basketball student-athlete who carried the maiden name of Alyson Cotter, Campbell picked right where she left off as she led the golf team to the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Division III National Tournament berth and helped Harrer's hoopsters to fashion an 18-8 mark last winter.
This fall, Campbell's women's golf team won two tournament titles and compiled a 53-14 record in six tournaments and 10 rounds of 18 holes. This spring, her squad won two more titles, including the school's third-ever OAC crown, and had a 30-4 mark in five tourneys and nine rounds.
"I first would like to also congratulate my predecessor Sean Strickland who assembled a very talented and hard-working group of young women who were just a joy to coach," said Campbell, who spent the past two years as an assistant coach at Padua High School in nearby Parma and served as a aerobics, fitness and wellness professional. "From the fall through the spring, this team worked to get better, set its goals and went out an accomplished all but one of its goals. The other goal will be realized next week when we have the opportunity to travel to Florida and play in the Division III national tournament."

"I appreciate the OAC honor, it caps a very exciting first year back at B-W," continued Campbell. "It is very nice and a credit to our team. I continue to be really excited about being back at Baldwin-Wallace and having the opportunity to work with our golf and women's basketball student-athletes."
While at B-W, Campbell earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport Management and was a two-year standout on a pair of Harrer teams that won OAC titles. As a freshman in 2004-2005, she played in all 29 games for the 23-6 overall Yellow Jackets as they captured the OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles and advanced to the 2005 NCAA Division III National Tournament. As a sophomore in 2005-2006, Campbell appeared in all 32 contests for the Jackets as they compiled a 27-5 mark, won the OAC regular season title and advanced to the “Elite Eight” of the NCAA tourney. During her two years on the varsity, Campbell scored 357 points, grabbed 185 rebounds, passed for 42 assists, blocked 35 shots and made 38 steals. Following the 2005-2006 season, Campbell left the program to study abroad in Australia in 2006-2007.
In addition to excelling on the basketball court, she was a Dean’s List student who graduated Magna Cum Laude, a Freshman Orientation Leader, the Secretary of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and a member of the Sport Management Club.
While at Salem High School, Campbell was a four-sport student-athlete in basketball, golf, soccer and track and earned nine varsity letters. She was named All-Metro Athletic Conference (MAC) on six occasions, a four-time All-Columbiana County selection and was tabbed All-District on three occasions. In addition, Campbell was selected as the MAC Player of the Year for basketball during her senior campaign.
Campbell and her husband, Devon, reside in Bay Village.
