Named as the OAC "Freshman-of-the-Year"
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College freshman forward Cara Shiplett (Canal Fulton/ Northwest) is the recipient of the Ohio Athletic Conference "Freshman-of-the-Year" award. She is the first Yellow Jacket ever to win that award.
Shiplett helped B-W, 23-5 overall, to its fifth OAC regular-season title and fourth OAC Tournament championship this year. She was second on the team and is 18th in the OAC in scoring average (10.6 points-per-game) and is ninth in the OAC in field goal percentage (49.6 percent on 113-of-228 attempts). Shiplett led the team in rebounding (5.0 rpg.) and field goals made (113). She also has 27 assists and 31 steals.
Tonight, Shiplett and the Yellow Jacket women host Denison University in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Division III National Tournament at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 7:30 p.m. If B-W wins, it advances to play at Albion (Mich.) College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
