Third Straight Victory to Improve to 3-1
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early seven-point lead at 9-2 at the 16:34 mark when junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC point guard Nikki Altenweg (Perry) made a pair of foul shots. B-W also led by as many as 15 points on two separate occassions with the last one being at 42-27 with 20 seconds left before halftime when freshman forward Cara Shiplett (Canal Fulton/ Northwest) made a baseline jumper off of a pass from Altenweg. B-W also led 42-27 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as many as 33 points at 72-39 with 10:09 left in the game when freshman forward Carly Flowers (Eastlake/ North) scored two on a jumper assisted by Jaworski. The Yellow Jackets led by 32 points during four other times during the game and held a 30 margen over Grove City for nearly seven minutes straight from the 10:38 minute mark to 3:36.
In addition to Jaworski's 14 points, Altenweg also scored in the double digits with 11 and Shiplett led the team with 10 rebounds. Grove City was led by Abby Moose with 19 points.
The Yellow Jacket women will next play on Saturday, December 4 when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to open 2004-2005 Ohio Athletic Conference play against Otterbein College at 3:00 p.m.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET women's basketball team hosts nonleague rival Grove City College of Pennsylvania in its home opener on Wednesday, December 1, in Berea, Ohio at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium. Tipoff is schedule for 6:00 p.m. and this is the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader. At 8:00 p.m., the B-W men (3-0 overall) host the Oberlin College men.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will look to win its third straight game and improve to 3-1overall when it hosts nonleague rival Grove City College of Pennsylvania in its home opener and in the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader in Berea.
The Yellow Jackets opened their 2004-2005 season by traveling to the Greater Cleveland Tip-Off Tournament at Notre Dame College of Ohio on Nov.19 -20. In the first round, B-W lost to crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University, 66-63 in overtime, and then defeated Notre Dame College of Ohio, 78-45, in the consolation game to take third place at the tournament. B-W then traveled to traditional rival Wittenberg University on Nov. 23 and beat the Tigers, 72-62, in Springfield.
The Wolverines started their season by hosting the Howard Johnson Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 19-20. In the first round, the Wolverines defeated Heidelberg College in the first round, 67-43, but then lost to NAIA power Walsh University in the championship, 74-58. Grove City then beat previously unbeaten Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University at home on Nov. 23 by the score of 66-51.
The Baldwin-Wallace versus Grove City (Pa.) All-Time Series Information -- The Baldwin-Wallace and Grove City have played 14 times previously in women's basketball with the Yellow Jackets holding a 13-1 series advantage, including 13 straight wins and a 81-59 victory a year ago in Grove City. Grove City won the first-ever meeting between the two teams in 1982-83 by a score of 66-53. Since that game, B-W has won 13 straight times.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets -- Look for Yellow Jackets Head Coach Cheri Harrer to start 5'7" junior point guard Nikki Altenweg (Perry), 5'10" freshman guard Ashley Westenbarger (McComb), and 5'9" sophomore guard Michelle White (Hudson) on the perimeter. Look for 5'10" freshman forward Cara Shiplett (Canal Fulton/ Northwest), and 6'0" junior forward Jenn Neal (Mentor) at the forward positions.
After two games, Shiplett tops the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game, grabs 5.3 rebounds per game and is canning 63 percent of her field goals (17-of-27). Nikki Altenweg is the only other player in double-digit scoring at 11.7 ppg., is tied with Neal for the rebounding lead at 5.7 rpg. and tops the team in both assists with 16 and steals with six. Neal is scoring 8.0 ppg. Westenbarger is scoring 8.0 ppg. White is scoring 5.0 ppg. and grabbing 5.0 rpg.
Off the bench, look for Coach Harrer to play 6'0" junior forward Lindsay Mamula (Clinton/ Massillon Jackson), 5'6" sophomore guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/ Padua), 5'4" sophomore guard Kelly Williams (Canfield), 5'9" freshman forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local), and 5'7" sophomore guard Kristin Matushevski (Hinckley/ Medina Highland). Jaworski is averaging 9.3 ppg. and is leading the team with four three pointers.
Scouting The Grove City College Wolverines --Look for Grove City Head Coach Melissa Lamie to start the senior guard tandem of 5'5" Rachel Romance and 5'6" guard Abby Moose in the backcourt. On the inside, Lamie will start 6'2' senior center Sandy O'Keefe, 6'0" freshman Rachel McCoy and 5'8" sophomore forward Lee Anne Lukcic. After three games, Moose leads the team in scoring at 13.3 ppg., and steals with eight and grabs 5.0 rpg., but she has turned the ball over 18 times (6.o tpg.). O'Keefe is scoring 11.0 ppg., grabs 5.3 rpg. and tops the team with nine blocked shots. McCoy is scoring 11.3 ppg. and grabbing a team-leading 8.3 rpg. and has blocked seven shots. Lukcic scores 3.3 ppg. and is second on the team in rebounding with 6.0 rgp. Romance, who leads the team with 10 assists, scores 5.7 ppg.
Off the bench, look for 5'7" junior guard Tammy Hess, 5'8" freshman guard Shannon Overdorff and 5'9" sophomore guard Elyze Bogusz to all get significant playing time for the Wolverines. Hess, who started the first two games, conributes 3.0 ppg. Overdorff averages 6.0 ppg. and 3.7 rpg. Bogusz chips in 4.3 ppg. Also, 5'11" freshman forward Brittany Anderson and 5'8" freshman guard Jayne Lin Jones each have played in all three games so far. The Wolverines will be without 5'9" senior forward Joceyln Kempema who is currently studying abroad in Europe.
THE LAST MEETING BETWEEN B-W and GROVE CITY: On December 4, 2003 in Grove City, Pennsylvania: Baldwin-Wallace -- 81, Grove City -- 59 -- The Yellow Jackets defeated the Wolverines, 81-59. The game was close untill the Yellow Jackets closed the first half with a 9-0 run and opened the second half with a 8-0 run. B-W was paced by current junior center forward Lindsay Mamula who scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. Graduated All-American forward Erika Shutlz added 19 points and eight boards. Current sophomore forward Michelle White had eight markers. For the Wolverines, Sandy O'Keefe led the way with 14 points and three blocked shots and Leigh LaGare scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
In B-W's Last Game on November 23, 2004 at Wittenberg in Springfield, Ohio: Baldwin-Wallace -- 72, Wittenberg -- 62 -- The Yellow Jackets defeated host and traditional rival Wittenberg University, 72-62, in Springfield on Tuesday, November 23. It was B-W's fourth straight win against the Tigers. Leading the way for B-W was freshman forward Cara Shiplett with a career-high 21 points as she canned seven-of-nine field goals and seven-of-nine foul shots. Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC point guard Nikki Altenweg had 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, freshman guard Ashley Westenbarger had a career-high 12 points, including two-of-two shooting from three-point range, and sophomore guard Steffani Jaworski had 10 points and a career-high seven rebounds.
In Grove City's Last Game on Nov. 23, 2004 versus Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) in Grove City: Grove City -- 66, Carnegie-Mellon -- 51 -- The Wolverines of Grove City improved to 2-1 overall and handed previously unbeaten Carnegie-Mellon (Pa.) College its first loss with a 66-51 victory in Grove City on November 23. Senior center Sandy O'Keefe led Grove City with 14 points and she was joined in double-figure scoring by senior guard Abby Moore with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. Freshman center Rachel McCoy, making her first career start, had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Altenweg Almost Became the First-Ever in B-W History -- Nikki Altenweg almost became the first B-W player, male or female, to ever record a triple double when she scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and passed for nine assists at Wittenberg on November 23. Altenweg, who carries a 3.9 grade average, was both All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC a year ago.
Twelve Have Seen Action Every Game -- Head Coach Cheri Harrer has played 12 student-athletes in each of B-W's first three games.
OAC Titles and NCAA Excellence --- Last winter, the Yellow Jacket women's basketball team won its fourth OAC regular season title in the last six years. B-W won OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles in 1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002. The Yellow Jackets have also advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in seven of the last nine years, including in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 when it advanced to the "Elite Eight" each year.
Eight Straight 20-Win Seasons -- The Yellow Jackets have eight straight 20-win season. During that time span, B-W is 193-34 with an .850 winning percentage.
