With its win, B-W is now 8-1 overall and ranked sixth in Division III. It plays Wisconsin Whitewater tomorrow in the second round at 5:30 p.m. Wisconsin Whitewater beat Montclair State (N.J.), 64-63. Coe dropped to 1-6 overall.
Koepp was the only double figure scorer for the Yellow Jackets as all 21 players who made the trip saw action. Holly Zimmerman led Coe with 13 points and Amy Ernst added 11, including three three-pointers.
In the first half, B-W led by as many as 17 points, at 38-21, with four seconds left before the intermission when freshman backup center Lindsay Mamula scored on a jumper. In the second half, B-W outscored Coe, 20-9, in the first 11 minutes to build a 29-point lead at 59-30. The Yellow Jackets then extended their lead to as many as 32 points with the final score when freshman backup center Caroline Symes scored on a jumper with two seconds remaining.
The championship game of the eight-team tourney is set for Monday, Dec. 30 at 6:45 p.m. (EST).

BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET women's basketball team will travel to San Diego, California to compete in the 2002 San Diego Surf N' Slam Women's Small College Tournament and play Coe College of Iowa on Friday, December 27, 2002 in the Point Loma Nazarene Gymnasium at 12:15 p.m. This is the first game of the three day tournament and the Yellow Jackets will play the following day (December 28) at either 10:00 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.RADIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College campus station WBWC, 88.3 FM. will broadcast all home and away Yellow Jacket games. Today's pregame show from San Diego will begin at 12:00 p.m. Seniors Jon Holko (Wadsworth, Ohio) and Ryan Edgar (Lancaster, Ohio) will call the play-by-play and do the color analysis, respectively.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket women's basketball team will look to win its second straight game when it travels to San Diego, California to participate in the annual Surf N' Slam Tournament. B-W will play Coe (Iowa.) College in its first game.
The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 7-1overall record following their 68-53 victory on December 21 in Berea. B-W has played seven of its first eight games in 2002-2003 in the "friendly confines" of the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
Coe enters this game with a 1-3 overall record following its 91-76 loss to The College of St. Benedict on December 14 in Claire Lynch, Iowa.
The B-W vs. Coe College All-Time Series -- The Baldwin-Wallace and Coe women will meet for the first time ever at the San Diego Surf N' Slam Tournament.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets -- Look for 6'0" senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Holly Koepp (Lorain Catholic), 5'11" junior center Erika Schultz (Waterville/ Anthony Wayne), 5'5" senior All-OAC guard Natalie Winkelfoos (Bucyrus Senior), 5'7" freshman point guard Nikki Altenweg (Perry) and 5'9" junior guard Karissa Kusick (Chicora, Pa./ Karns City) to start. Junior 5'10" All-OAC guard/ forward Sarah Gordon (Wooster Senior), 5'7" sophomore guard Stephanne Musser (Miamisburg), 6'1" senior center Heather Eckstein (Willard) and 5'10" freshman forward Alex Miller (Tiffin Columbian) will be the first players off the bench.
In B-W's Last Game-- On December 21, 2002 versus Marietta in Berea: B-W--68, Mt. Union -- 53: The Yellow Jackets rebounded from their 66-63 loss to Mt. Union as they defeated Marietta College, 68-53, in Berea. B-W was led by senior guards Sarah Gordon and Natalie Winkelfoos with 15 points each and junior guard Karissa Kusick added 12 markers. With the win, B-W improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. In the first half,
B-W led by as many as 14 points, at 40-26, with 1.4 seconds left before the intermission when Gordon scored on layup. In the second half, B-W extended its lead to as many as 21 points, at 51-30 with 14:42 left when Gordon again scored on a layup.
The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After eight games B-W is led in scoring by Sarah Gordon with 12.4 points per game. She is also shooting a team-leading 57.4 percent from the floor (35 of 61), 53.8 percent from three-point range (14 of 26) and 78.9 percent from the foul line (15 of 19). She also tops the team with 10 blocked shots. Holly Koepp is second in scoring at 10.8 ppg. and first in rebounding with 8.0 rpg. She is also first with 16 steals and third with seven three-pointers. Natalie Winkelfoos is third in scoring at 10.4 ppg., is shooting 60.9 percent from three-point range (14 of 23) and 100 percent from the foul line (seven of seven) and is tied for second with 13 steals. Karissa Kusick is fourth in scoring at 9.0 ppg., grabs 3.5 rpg., shoots 81.3 percent from the foul line (13 of 16) and is second with 33 assists. Erika Schultz is fifth in scoring at 8.8 ppg. and second in both rebounding at 4.6 rpg. and field goal shooting at 55.6 percent (35 of 63) and second with five blocked shots. Stephanne Musser is sixth in scoring at 7.6 ppg. Nikki Altenweg (Perry) is seventh in scoring at 4.0 ppg. and is first with 37 assists and tied for second with 13 steals. She is also grabbing 3.4 rpg.
Scouting The Coe Hawks: Look for Coe Head Coach Meilissa Bruner to start 5'3" sophomore guard Holly Zimmerman, 5'2" senior guard Liz Estes, 5'9" sophomore forward Beth Rohlena, 5'9" freshman forward Emily Randolph and 5'9" freshman forward Ann Gramkow. Also look for 5'11 junior forward Kathleen Hudson, 5'7" junior guard Natalie Hibler, 5'8" freshman forward Chris Engel and 5'8" sophomore guard Amy Ernst all to see action as well as others.
In Coe's Last Game-- On December 14, 2002 versus St. Bens College in Claire Lynch, Iowa: St. Bens-- 91, Coe -- 75-- The Hawks dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the IIAC when they lost 91-75 to St. Ben's in Claire Lynch, Iowa on Saturday, December, 14. Despite the loss, the Hawks were led by Liz Estes who had a team-high 26 points. St. Ben's were led by guard Michelle Barlau who scored a game-high 29 points.
The Hawks Statistical Leaders -- After five games, Coe is led in scoring by Liz Estes with 13.6 ppg. and has a team-leading 15 three-pointers. Also in double figures is Ann Gramkow at 12.4 ppg and Emily Randolph at 11.8 ppg and leads the team in rebounding with 6.8 per game.
Yellow Jackets Are Ranked Sixth Nationally -- The B-W women are ranked sixth nationally in the third weekly national poll for Division III by the d3hoops.com Internet Web site. The Yellow Jackets are also ranked 21st nationally by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in its preseason poll. B-W began the d3hoops.com poll ranked 11th, moved to ninth in the first weekly poll, sixth in the second poll and stayed sixth in week three.
The Difference -- After eight games, the Yellow Jackets are outscoring the opposition by 16.6 points per game.
The Yellow Jacket Tradition of Excellence -- B-W is seeking a seventh straight 20-win season in 2002-2003. The Yellow Jackets have appeared in six of the last seven NCAA Division III National Tournaments. B-W has appeared in each of the last five OAC Championship Games. In both 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, B-W advanced to the "Elite" Eight of the Division III National Tournament.
Excellence Extends to the Classroom -- The B-W women's basketball excellence extends to the classroom. Last year's team was ranked eighth nationally in terms of grade point average.
Harrer is the Winningest All-Time Women's Coach -- Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in school history with 237 victories.
The Theme for 2002-2003 is "Back to Business" -- The Yellow Jackets have selected the theme of "Back to Business" in 2002-2003. B-W's goal is to return to the top of the OAC Standings and back to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
