BEREA, OHIO -- Senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) scored a team-high 21 points as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College College, 71-67, today (Saturday, December 15, 2007) in the Fred Raizk Arena in Wilmington. B-W is now tied for first place in the OAC
With its victory, B-W is 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the OAC and won its third straight game. With its loss, Wilmington fell to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in the OAC and lost for the second time in its last three games.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the 19:01 mark when junior guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Parma Heights Holy Name) made B-W's second three-pointer in the opening minute of play. Following a 5-0 run by the Quakers to make the score 6-5, B-W went on an 11-2 run to build its lead to 10 points at 17-7 when freshman guard Carrie Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon) made the third first half triple at the 13:21 mark. B-W built its biggest lead of the first stanza at 13 points at 22-9 with 8:25 left when Budge made a steal and layup. The Jackets also led at halftime, 30-18.
In the second half, the Quakers outscore the Yellow Jackets 18-5 to take their first lead at 36-35 with 13:18 left when sophomore center Kortney Kin made two foul shots. Wilmington then led by three before there were three lead changes and a tie. B-W regained the lead at 43-41 at the 9:46 mark when Budge made a jump shot. The Jackets then stretched the lead to as much as six points at 49-43 when junior two time All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) connected on a three-pointer at the 7:39 mark. Wilmington could only get as close as one point on three separate occassions with the last being at 64-63 with 1:12 left when senior forward Katie Streck rebounded and scored after a missed shot. The key to the game for the Yellow Jackets was that they made 11-of-12 foul shots in the last six and one-half minutes of the game.
In addition to Budge, Mondrach and Quiring each had 12 points with all of Quiring's coming in the first half. Senior forward Katie Streck led the Quakers with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Kinn with 15 and senior forward Gina Hyle had 14 and a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Yellow Jacket women will be back in action on Friday, December 28 when they host the B-W Holiday Invitational Tournament and play Hanover (Ind.) College at 5:30 p.m. In the nightcap, Calvin (Mich.) College plays Allegheny (Pa.) College at 7:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games are on Saturday, December 29 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., respecively.

The Quakers enter this game with a 7-1 overall and perfect 3-0 OAC record following their 88-65 win against Marietta College on Saturday (Dec. 8) in Wilmington. The Lady Quakers have won six straight games, including OAC wins against Heidelberg College (62-60), Capital (76-68) and Marietta.
The B-W Versus Wilmington All-Time Series -- B-W and Wilmington have previously met 22 times in women's basketball with the Yellow Jackets leading the all-time series, 12-10. A year ago, the Quakers beat B-W, 72-69, in the first meeting of the season on Jan. 13, 2007 in Wilmington. B-W won the second meeting 69-62 on February 3 in Berea. Wilmington were led by graduate Kelly Peters and current 5'9" senior post Katie Streck with 13 points each.
B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Baldwin-Wallace scores 66.5 points per game and allows 51.8 ppg. for a differential of plus 14.7 ppg. The Yellow Jackets grab 42.6 rebounds per game and allow opponents to grab 35.2 rpg. for a +7.4 rpg. Look for Head Coach Cheri Harrer to play 11 women. She will probably start Amanda Mondrach and Rachael Quiring in the backcourt along with 5'8" senior Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood). On the inside, look for 5'8" senior Stacia Shrider(Marietta/ Warren Local) to start at forward and Ariel Brough to start at center. To date, Eskinazi-Budge tops the team in scoring at 11.5 ppg., grabs 5.5 rpg., is first with 16 steals and second with 14 assists and six blocked shots. Mondrach scores 7.8 ppg. to rank second, grabs 3.4 rpg. and is second with seven three-pointers and third with 13 assists. Quiring scores 7.4 ppg., tops the team with 18 assists and is tied for third with 12 steals. Brough scores 7.5 ppg., grabs 4.3 rpg. and tops the team with 14 blocked shots. Shrider scores 3.6 ppg. and tops the team with 6.8 rpg.

Ariel Brough led B-W with a career-high 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. In addition, Selena Eskinazi-Budge had 14 points and three steals, Courtney Ritzler came off the bench to score 11 points and Rachael Quiring had 10 points. B-W canned a season-high 77.8 percent of its foul shots by making 24-of-28 attempts.
Scouting the Wilmington Quakers -- Wilmington averages 74.4 points per game and allows 62.6 ppg to their opponents for a +11.8 ppg. differential. The Quakers outrebound their opponents 43.5 rpg. to 39.5 rpg. for plus 4.0 rpg. Wilmington shoots 44.7 percent from the field (226-of-506), including 33.5% from three point range (62-of-185), and 69.8% from the charity stripe (81-of-116).
Look for Head Coach Jerry Scheve to start 5'9" senior Katie Streck, 6'1" sophomore post Kortney Kin and 5'8" senior Gina Hyle on the inside. Look for 5'5" senior Jackie Hauke and 5'7" sophomore Marianne McGordon to start in the backcourt. Streck leads the team in scoring with 16.1 ppg., is second in rebounding with 6.3 rpg., shoots 60.3% from the floor (47-of-78) and 90.3% from the foul line (28-of-31). Kin scores 11.9 ppg., tops the team with 6.4 rpg. and shoots 50.7% from the floor (38-of-75). Hyle averages 10.1 ppg., grabs 5.6 rpg., shoots 57.6% from the field (38-of-66) and has 20 assists. Hauke scores 9.8 ppg., grabs 3.3 rpg. and has the most three-pointers with 16 and most steals with 16. McGordon averages 8.3 ppg., is second with 13 three-pointers and 14 steals and tops the team with 39 assists.
Off the bench, look for Scheve to utilize 6'0" sophomore Claire Brown, 6'0" sophomore Ki Godfrey, 5'7" freshman Allie Meranda and 5'5"senior guard Anna Haky. Brown averages5.0 ppg., grabs 4.1 rpg. and is third with 12 threepointers. Godfrey scores 3.9 ppg. and grabs 2.9 rpg. Meranda averages 3.6 ppg. and has seven three-pointers.
In Wilmington's Last Game Against Marietta College: Wilmington -- 88, Marietta -- 65 -- In Wilmington's last game, an 88-65 victory against Marietta College in Wilmington, Kortney Kin led the way with a team-high 20 points and game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double. She was supported in double figure scoring by Katie Streck with 15 points, Claire Brown came off the bench to score 12 points and make four three-pointers and Marianne McGoron had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three triples. Th Quakers made 53% of their field goals (35-of-66) and outrebounded the Pioneers, 57-41.

OAC Coaches Poll -- The Yellow Jackets received four first place votes and 71 total points and were picked to finish second by the OAC Coaches in their 2007-2008 preseason poll that was released on Nov. 7. Wilmington received one first place vote and was picked third.
Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 354 victories. Harrer is 354-127 in her 18-year career in Berea.
Foul Shooting is Much-Improved -- B-W's foul shooting is much-improved. Since making just 14-of-30 free throws in their season-opener against Alma (Mich.) College on November 16, the Yellow Jackets have canned 101-of-theorlast- 134 foul shots for 75.4 percent accuracy, including making 24-of-28 attempts for 87.5% in last Saturday's 79-52 win versus Ohio Northern.
