17th-Ranked Baldwin-Wallace College Women Beat Otterbein College,

BEREA, OHIO --  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Holy Name) scored 15 points as the 17th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Otterbein College, 84-70, tonight (Wednesday, January 9, 2008) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rike Center in Westerville. The win was B-W's seventh straight and kept the Yellow Jackets in first place in the OAC.
 
With its victory, B-W is 12-1 overall, in first place in the OAC at 5-1. With its loss, Otterbein is now 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.
 
In the first half, B-W opened its largest lead at six points as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 13-7 advantage at the15:41 mark when sophomore forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/Steele) made a layup.  Otterbein then countered with an 11-0 run to take an 18-13 lead with 13:00 remaining on two made free throws by junior guard Laura Roth.  The rest of the opening half remained close as the lead changed five times. B-W scored the final basket of the half on a three-pointer by freshman guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) with 38 seconds left to take a 38-36 lead at the intermission.
 
B-W began the second half with a 16-6 run to extend their lead into double digits at 54-42 on another three by Schroeder  at the15:44 mark. The Yellow Jackets increased the lead to their largest of the game at 19 points for the final time with 9:00 remaining at 71-52 on a jumper from senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore). Otterbein would get as close as 10 points at 78-68 with 2:57 left in the game on a free throw by senior forward Ana Gamble.  However, a layup and two made free throws by Mondrach put the game out of reach at the Yellow Jackets earned the 84-70 win.
 
In addition to Mondrach, senior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Schroeder had 14 points, and sophomore center Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) added 11 points.  Otterbein was led by Roth's game-high 20 points and 15 points form senior guard Sara Fee.  Also scoring 12 points each for the Cardinals were Gamble and sophomore guard Katy Miller.
 
The B-W women will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12 when they host OAC rival Muskingum College at 3:00 p.m.

Game Notes #13 at Otterbein College

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to Westerville, Ohio on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein Colletge at the Rike Center at 7:30 p.m. This is the sixth OAC game of the season and the first of two regular season meetings between the two schools.

The Pregame Setup -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to Westerville to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College in the first of two regular season meetings between the two schools. The Yellow Jackets will be looking for their seventh straight victory overall and fifth consectutive in OAC play.

The Yellow Jackets, who are ranked in both the d3hoops.com and USA Today/ WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) polls, enter this game with an 11-1 overall and 4-1 OAC record following an 84-59 win against Heidelberg College on January 4, 2008 in Berea. The win was B-W's sixth straight overall and fourth consecutive in the OAC since an overtime loss on Dec. 1, 2007.

The Cardinals enter this game with a 7-5 overall and 3-2 OAC record following their 79-65 win against Saint Mary's in the championship game of the Otterbein Smokey Ballenger Classic.

The B-W Versus Otterbein All-Time Series -- This is the 64th meeting between B-W and Otterbein. B-W leads the all-time series, 41-22, including winning seven of the last eight contests. Last season, the teams split their two regular season matchups as the Yellow Jackets beat Otterbein, 84-69, on Jan. 10, 2007 in Westerville, and Otterbein won, 93-91, on Feb. 7, 2007 in Berea. The first-ever meeting was during the 1974-75 season when B-W won, 50-49.

In Last Year's First B-W vs. Otterbein Game in Westerville: B-W -- 84, Otterbein -- 69 -- In last year's first game between the Yellow Jackets and the Cardinals, B-W won by a 84-69 margin at the Rike Center in Westerville on Jan. 10, 2007. After a 40-40 halftime tie, B-W pulled away in the second half thanks in part to the play of current 5'10'' senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore), who scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.  Otterbein was led by current 5'10'' senior guard Sara Fee with 16 points.

In Last Year's Second B-W vs. Otterbein Game in Berea: Otterbein -- 93, B-W -- 91 -- In last year's second matchup between B-W and Otterbein, the Cardinals beat the Yellow Jackets, 93-91, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea on Feb. 7, 2007. The win by Otterbein ended B-W's seven game winning streak versus the Cardinals. Otterbein got a game-high 20 points from current 5'11'' senior forward Ana Gamble and 18 points from Sara Fee. B-W was led by current 5'6'' junior guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/Holy Name) with 16 points.

B-W Information and Probable Starters -- As a team, B-W averages 68.8 points-per-game and allows 54.7 ppg to its opponents for a plus 14.1 ppg. differential. The Yellow Jackets grab 39.2 rebounds-per-game and allow 35.8 rpg. for a plus 3.4 differential. B-W shoots 42.3 percent from the field (306-of-724), including 34.2% from three point range, and makes 69.7% of its foul shots.

Look for Head Coach Cheri Harrer to start 5'9'' junior Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Holy Name) and Rachael Quiring in the backcourt along with 5'8" senior Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood). On the inside, look for 5'8" senior Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local) to start at forward and for 6'2" sophomore Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) to start at center. To date, Mondrach tallies 8.3 ppg., grabs 3.2 rpg., has canned 14 three-pointers and has passed for 22 assists. Quiring scores 7.6 ppg. and leads the team with 27 assists. Brough averages 8.1 ppg. and 4.0 rpg. and tops the team and OAC with 23 blocked shots. Shrider scores 3.1 ppg. and tops the team with 6.4 rpg. Eskinazi-Budge scores a team-best 12.5 ppg., grabs 4.7 rpg., is tied for second with 22 assists and leads the team with 26 steals.

Off the bench, look for Harrer to use the 5'10'' Flowers, 5'10" sophomore transfer forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/ Steele), 5'10" sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), 5'11 freshman forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and 5'7" freshman guards and twin sisters Carrie and Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon). Flowers, who led B-W in scoring a year ago, has 6.1 ppg. and also grabs 4.3 rpg. Courtney is fifth in scoring at 6.3 ppg., grabs 2.4 rpg. and has 18 assists and 16 steals.

In B-W's Last Game versus Heidelberg in Berea: Baldwin-Wallace--84--, Heidelberg-- 59-- In B-W's last game, an 84-59 victory against OAC rival Heidelberg College on January 4 in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, the Yellow Jackets were led by Selena Eskinazi-Budge with 15 points. She was joined in double figures by Ariel Brough with 12 points and Amanda Schroeder with 10 markers. All 18 players on the roster saw action as B-W connected on 33-of-53 field goal attempts for 62.3 percent and passed for 25 assists on the 33 made baskets.

Scouting the Otterbein College Cardinals -- As a team, Otterbein averages 74.1 ppg. and allows 64.9 ppg to its opponents for a plus 9.2 ppg. differential. The Cardinals grab 38.8 rpg. and allow 38.7 rpg. for a plus 0.1 differential.Otterbein shoots 44.5% from the field (317-of-712), including 31.9% from three point range, and makes 72.1% of its foul shots.

Look for veteran Head Coach Connie Richardson to start 5'7'' junior Laura Roth, 5'6'' sophomore Karli Volkmer and Fee in the backcourt. At the forward position, expect to see 5'11'' sophomore Katy Miller along with Gamble. Roth leads the team in scoring at 15.1 ppg. and steals with 34 and assists with 60. Volkmer scores 13.0 ppg. and grabs 4.1 rpg. Gamble averages 13.9 ppg. and 3.3 rpg. Fee scores 10.7 ppg. Miller also adds 9.1 ppg. and a team-high 9.3 rpg.

Off the bench, look for Richardson to primarly utilize 5'6'' junior guard Jessica Tonges, 5'6'' senior forward Chelsea Califf, 5'11'' junior forward Carla Lewis and 6'0'' sophomore post Allison Huettel. Lewis leads this group in scoring at 3.6 ppg.

In Otterbein's Last Game Against St. Mary's (Ind.) College in Westerville on December 29: Otterbein -- 79, St. Mary's (Ind.) -- 65 -- In Otterbein's last game, a 79-65 win against St. Mary's (Ind.) College in the championship game of the Otterbein College Smokey Ballenger Classic on Dec. 29, the Cardinals placed four starters in double figurews and were led by Anna Gamble's 20 points. In addition, Katy Miller had 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, Laura Roth had 11 points and six assists and Karli Volkmer had 10 points.

Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 358 victories. Harrer is 358-127 in her career in 18 seasons at the College and stands third on the all-time Ohio Athletic Conference win list. She is 45 wins shy of Muskingum's Donna Newberry for second place.

Budge Was the MVP and Two More Make All-Tournament Team -- Selena Eskinazi-Budge was named as the Most Valuable Player at the B-W Holiday Invitational Tournament on December 28-29 as she led the Yellow Jackets to the team title. Budge was joined on the all-tournament team by Ariel Brough and Courtney Ritzler.

Much Better at the Foul Line -- Since its first two games of the season, when B-W connected on just 19-of-43 foul shots for just 44.2 percent, the Yellow Jackets have gotten MUCH, MUCH better and have connected on 142-of-188 attempts in the past 10 games for an outstanding 75.5 percent.
