BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s basketball team remained unbeaten and improved to 5-0 overall with a 87-37 victory against Oberlin College tonight (Tuesday, November 27, 2007) at the Philips Gymnasium in Oberlin. The victory also was B-W’s 13th straight against the Yeowomen. Oberlin fell to 1-3 overall.
The Yellow Jackets were led by junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) with 14 points each and freshman guard Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon) added 11 points, including three first half three-pointers. Oberlin was led by junior guard Alyssa Clark with 13 points and senior center Roneisha Kinney with 11 points.
In the first half, B-W jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the 16:48 mark when Mondrach scored on a layup. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as many as 29 points at 46-17 with 55 seconds left before the intermission when freshman forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) scored a fastbreak layup. B-W also led at halftime, 46-19.
In the second half, B-W increased its lead to 50 points on two separate occasions with the last one being at 87-37 at with nine seconds remaining when freshman guard Alex Greenhoe (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) scored on a putback.
B-W will next play on Saturday when the Yellow Jackets open 2007-2008 Ohio Athletic Conference play against arch-rival Capital University at 3:00 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea. The B-W and Capital women’s basketball rivaley is one of the best in small college basketball. Although Capital won the first 29 meetings, B-W has battled back to win 17 of the past 23. Head coaches Cheri Harrer of B-W and Dixie Jeffers of Capital are two of the winningest women’s basketball coaches in the history of Division III. A year ago, B-W beat Capital in Berea, 53-50, and Capital beat B-W in Columbus, 83-75 in overtime.

The Pregame Setup -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will look to remain unbeaten and improve to 5-0 overall as they take on Oberlin College tonight in Oberlin. This is B-W's final tuneup before beginning Ohio Athletic Conference play this Saturday against arch-rival Capital University.
The Yellow Jackets enter the game with a 4-0 overall record following a 65-60 come-from-behind victory over previously undefeated Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College on Saturday in their home opener. That game saw five ties and five lead changes, but the Yellow Jackets prevailed down the stretch, winning its fourth consecutive game. The B-W women have not started a season by winning its first four games since the 2005-2006 when it started 9-0.
The Yeowomen enter this game with a 1-2 overall mark following a 87-53 loss to John Carroll University. Oberlin has dropped five of its last eight contests dating back to last season.
The B-W Versus Oberlin All-Time Series -- B-W and Oberlin College have previously met 20 times in women's basketball with the Yellow Jackets leading the all-time series, 15-5, including a 107-39 victory in the last meeting on November 29, 2006 in Berea. The first-ever meeting between B-W and Oberlin was in 1968-69 and B-W won the contest 48-23.
In Last Year's B-W vs. Oberlin Game -- Baldwin-Wallace-- 107, Oberlin-- 39-- In last years game against Oberlin College, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Yeowomen 107-39 on Nov. 29, 2006 in Berea. The Yellow Jackets had six players reach double figures in scoring as Carly Flowers and Selena Eskinazi-Budge led the way with 12 points each.
In B-W's Last Game vs. Washington & Jefferson University -- Baldwin-Wallace -- 65, W & J -- 60 -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s basketball team remained unbeaten as it came-from-behind to defeat previously undefeated Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College, 65-60, in its home opener at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.
In the first half, W & J opened with a 12-6 run to take its biggest lead of the half at six points when sophomore guard Stephanie Smith made a jumper at the 13:50 mark. B-W responded with a 9-2 run to take its first lead of the half at 15-14 when senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) made jumper at the 8:55 mark. There would be four ties over the final 8:55 of the half and W & J led 29-26 at intermission.
In the second half, W & J jumped out to their largest lead of the game at the 13:55 mark when junior guard Veronica Kust made a jump shot to cap a 17-9 run to give the Presidents a 46-35 advantage. But B-W answered with a 17-5 run as the Jackets regained the lead at 52-51 with 7:37 remaining as senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) made a fast-break layup. The Yellow Jackets carried the momentum throughout the rest of the game as they achieved a seven point lead with 4:53 left at 58-51 when sophomore center Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) made a field goal.
B-W was led by freshman forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) with 11 points and junior guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/Holy Name) with 10. Also chipping-in for the Yellow Jackets were Eskinazi-Budge and Brough with nine points each.
W & J was led by junior forward Emily Hays with 19 points and sophomore forward Maggie Gibson with 17.
In Oberlin's Last game against John Carroll on 11/20/2007 -- JCU -- 87, Oberlin -- 53 -- In Oberlin's last game, an 87-53 loss against John Carroll University at Philips Gymnasium in Oberlin, the two teams were tied twice and exchanged leads seven times in the first half. John Carroll led by as many as 18 as it took a 45-27 lead into halftime as it closed out the half on a 18-4 run. Oberlin cut the John Carroll lead to 17 when junior guard Alyssa Clark sank a threepointer with 16:29 remaining in the game, but that was as close as the Yeowomen could close the gap in the second half. Oberlin was led in the game by Clark who had 14 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and five assists. Also in double figures was senior center Roneisha Kinney who scored 12 points to go with nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Alicia Smith with 10 points and four assists.
B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Look for Coach Harrer to start 5'8" junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and Quiring in the backcourt. At the forward position, look for 5'8" senior Stacia Shrider(Marietta/Warren Local) and 5'8'' freshman Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/Hopewell-Loudon) to start. At center, it will be Ariel Brough. To date, Mondrach tallies 7.8 points per game, grabs 3.8 rebounds per game, has canned a team-high five three-pointers and has passed for eight assists. Quiring scores 6.8 ppg. and grabs 3.3 rpg. Brough averages 8.0 ppg. and 4.8 rpg. and tops the team with seven blocked shots. Shrider scores 2.3 ppg. and tops the team with 7.0 rpg. Courtney Ritzler scores 4.3 ppg. and is tied for the team lead in steals with nine.
Off the bench, look for Harrer to use 5'10'' senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore), Selena Eskinazi-Budge, 5'10" sophomore transfer forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/ Steele), 5'10" sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), Amanda Schroeder and 5'7" freshman guard and twin sister Carrie Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon). Flowers, who led B-W in scoring a year ago, tops the team again this season at 9.3 ppg. and also grabs 5.5 rpg. Eskinazi-Budge is tied for third in scoring at 7.8 ppg., grabs 4.5 rpg. and tops the team with nine assists and nine steals.
Scouting the Yeowomen of Oberlin College -- Look for Head Coach Christa Champion to start 5'5" sophomore Alicia Smith, 5'6" freshman Katie Thompson and 5'6"freshman Christina Spencer in the backcourt. In the post, expect to see 5'8" junior Alyssa Clark and 6'2" senior Roneisha Kinney to start. Smith leads the Yeowomen in scoring at 15.0 ppg. She also shoots 57.9 percent from three point range (11-of-19). Kinney is second in scoring at 12.0 ppg. and also grabs team-best 11.0 rpg. Clark is third in scoring at 10.7 ppg., grabs 9.0 rpg., leads the team with 4.3 assists per game. Thompson scores 7.7 ppg. and grabs 3.0 rpg. and Spencer scores 2.0 ppg.
Off the bench, look for 5'11" sophomore forward Emily Chu Finkel, 5'4" freshman guard Syrea Thomas to see significnat playing time. 5'5'' sophomore guard Kayla Brandt also averages double digit minutes. Chu Finkel averages 5.0 ppg, while Thomas scores 2.7 ppg.

OAC Coaches Poll -- The Yellow Jackets received four first place votes and 71 total points and were picked to finish second by the OAC Coaches in their 2007-2008 preseason poll that was released on Nov. 7.
Two Yellow Jackets Named to All-Tournament Team -- The duo of senior Ariel Brough and senior Carly Flowers were named to Anderson (Ind.) University Tipoff Tournament All-Tournament team. Flowers averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the tournament while Brough chipped in with 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.
Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 351 victories. Harrer is 351-126 in her career.
