BEREA, OHIO -- Senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) scored 17 points as the 17th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Muskingum College, 78-54, today (Saturday, January 12, 2008) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The win was B-W's eighth straight and kept the Yellow Jackets in first place in the OAC.
With its victory, B-W is 13-1 overall, in first place in the OAC at 6-1. With its loss, Muskingum is now 7-6 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.
In the first half, Muskingum took a 10-9 lead when junior post Jessica McKenzie hit a jumper at the 13:27 mark. B-W then went on an 11-2 run to take a 22-12 lead at the 10:30 mark when sophomore forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/Steele) hit a jumper. The Muskies then used a 6-2 run to cut the lead to six points at 24-18 when McKenzie made a layup at the 8:16 mark. The Yellow Jackets went on a 20-6 run capped by a free throw with seven seconds left in the half by senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) to lead 44-24 at halftime.
In the second half, B-W opened the half with a 19-11 run to take its biggest lead of the game at 63-35 when junior All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) made field goal with 11:29 left in the game. Muskingum cut the lead to 19 points with 3:18 left when senior guard Renee Metzger hit a jumper to make the score 70-50. B-W would close out the game with an 8-3 run for the final score of 78-54.
In addition to Eskinazi-Budge, Mondrach scored 14 points and Flowers scored 10 points. Sophomore center Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) pulled down 11 rebounds. Muskingum was led by McKenzie who scored a game-high 22 points and senior guard Renee Metzger who scored 10 points.
The B-W women will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 16 when they host OAC and Greater Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in Berea at 7:30 p.m.

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum College on Saturday, January 12, 2008 in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 3:00 p.m. This is the seventh OAC contest for the Yellow Jackets and the first of two regular season matchups with the Fighting Muskies.

B-W's only loss occurred in overtime on December 1, 2007.
The Fighting Muskies enter this game with a 7-5 overall and 2-4 OAC record following their 79-65 victory against Marietta College in New Concord on Wednesday. Muskingum has won two its last three contests.
The B-W Versus Muskingum All-Time Series -- This is the 53rd meeting in women's basketball between B-W and Muskingum. B-W leads the all-time series, 30-22, including 12 straight wins and a pair a year ago. Last season, B-W beat Muskingum, 90-64, on Jan. 6, 2007 in Berea and 81-71 on Feb. 10, 2007 in New Concord. The first-ever meeting was during the 1965-66 season when MC won, 49-26. The last Muskingum win against B-W came on January 10, 2001 when the Muskies prevailed, 82-63, in New Concord.

Graduated forward Jessica Lattimer led B-W with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Amanda Mondrach had 13 points and Michelle White scored 11. McKenzie was the leading Muskie scorer with 22 points.

To date, Mondrach tallies 8.8 ppg., grabs 3.4 rpg., has canned 15 three-pointers and has passed for 23 assists. Quiring scores 7.5 ppg. and leads the team in assists with 27. Brough averages 8.3 ppg., grabs 4.2 rpg. and tops the team with 24 blocked shots. Shrider scores 3.7 ppg. and tops the team with 6.8 rpg. Eskinazi-Budge scores a team-best 11.8 ppg. and leads the squad in steals with 26.
Off the bench, look for Harrer to use Carly Flowers, 5'10" sophomore transfer forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/Steele), 5'10" sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), 5'11 freshman forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and 5'7" freshman guards and twin sisters Carrie and Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon). Flowers scores 6.3 ppg. and grabs 4.7 rpg. Courtney Ritzler scores 6.2 ppg., grabs 2.4 rpg., has 19 assists and is tied for second on the team with 17 steals.
In B-W's Last Game at Otterbein College in Westerville: Baldwin-Wallace --84, Otterbein-- 70 -- In B-W's last game, an 84-70 victory against Otterbein College Westerville on Jan. 9, the Yellow Jackets were led by Amanda Mondrach with 15 points, Amanda Schroeder came off the bench to score 14 points and Stacia Shrider had a doubledouble ith 11 points and 11 rebounds. Keys to the victory included outrebounding Otterbein, 51-33, forcing 17 Cardinal trnovers and outscoring Otterbein at the free throw line, 21-13.
Scouting the Muskingum Fighting Muskies -- As a team, Muskingum averages 71.5 ppg. and allows 67.8 ppg. to its pponents for a plus 3.8 ppg. differential. The Muskies grab 38.8 rpg. and allow 39.1 rpg. for a minus 0.2 differential. uskingum shoots 42% from the field (304-of-724), including 29.7% from three point range (62-of-209), and makes 8.9% of its foul shots (188-of-273).
Look for head coach Beth Fox to start 5'5" junior guard Tiffany Youel along with 5'6" freshman guard Sarah Fraley and 5'4" junior guard Laura Gibson in the backcourt. In the post, the Muskies will look to 5'8" freshman post Heidi Riffle and Jessica McKenzie. Youel tops the team in scoring with 16.5 ppg., grabs 3.4 rpg. and also tops the team with 22 threepointers, 43 assists and 21 steals. Off the bench, look for Fox to utilize 5'8" junior post Jessica Brink, 5'8" senior guard Renee Metzger and 5'6" junior guard Mallory Moore. Brink averages 7.3 ppg., grabs 3.0 rpg. and makes 62.3% of her field goals (38-of-61). Metzger also scores 7.3 ppg. and has 17 three-pointers.
In Muskingum's Last Game Against Marietta College in New Concord: Muskingum -- 79, Marietta -- 65 -- In Muskingum's last game, a 79-65 win against Marietta College on Jan. 9, the Muskies were led by Tiffany Youel with 24 points and four steals. In addition, Jessica McKenzie had 20 points and a game-high 15 rebounds and Jessica Brink had 12 points. Keys to the Muskie win included outrebounding the Pioneers, 44-32, and forcing 19 Marietta turnovers.

Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 359 victories. Harrer is 359-127 in her career and stands 2nd on the active Ohio Athletic Conference win list and 23rd on the list of active coaches in all of Division III.
Budge is the MVP and Two More Make All-Tournament Team -- Selena Eskinazi-Budge was named as the B-W Holiday Invitational Tournament Most Valuable Player and she was joined on the all-tournament team by Ariel Brough and Courtney Ritzler. In addition, the all-tourney team also was comprised on Calvin (Mich.) College's Marcia Harris, Hanover (Ind.) College Molly Martin and Allegheny (Pa.) College's Emilie Simone.
