The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team travels to University Heights, Ohio to play Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7:30 p.m. This is the 17th OAC regular season game and the second of two games against the Blue Streaks.
TELEVISION -- This game will be televised and shown on a tape delay basis by SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com) on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 12:00 noon, according to the latest iformation available on the STO Web site.
RADIO -- All Yellow Jacket women's basketball games, home and away, are broadcast by campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, and via the WBWC Internet Web site at www.wbwc.com. The pregame show generally begins at least 15 minutes prior to tipoff.

The Pregame Setup -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will look to clinch the outright Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title when it travels to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the DeCarlo Varsity Center. B-W is currently in first place and has already clinched a tie for its seventh OAC regular season crown in the last 10 years.
Despite the title tie, one of B-W's two losses this season came at the hands of JCU, and the Blue Streaks have beaten the Yellow Jackets two straight times dating back to last season. That should offer plenty of incentive for another excellent game.
The Yellow Jackets enter the game with a 21-2 overall and 14-2 OAC record following a 61-51 win against Muskingum College on Saturday, Feb. 16 in New Concord. B-W has won eight straight games and 17 of its last 18 games overall. A win today will give B-W its longest winning streak of the season. The Yellow Jackets have a two-game lead over Ohio Northern University and Wilmington College in the OAC Standings and own the tie-breaker versus each team by sweeping the season series.
The Blue Streaks enter this game with a 15-8 overall and 10-6 OAC record following a 90-78 win over Marietta College on Feb. 16 in Marietta. John Carroll has won two straight games and give of its last seven overall and currently sits in xxxth place in the OAC.
The B-W Versus John Carroll All-Time Series -- This is the 55th meeting in women's basketball between B-W and JCU. B-W leads the all-time series, 35-19, including wins in 30 of the last 32 meetings. Earlier this season, JCU beat B-W, 80-73, on Jan. 16, 2008 in Berea. The last B-W win came on January 3, 2007 in a 64-61 victory in Berea. The first-ever meeting was during the 1975-76 season when John Carroll won, 57-56.
In This Year's First B-W versus JCU Game on Jan. 16 in Berea: JCU -- 80, B-W -- 73 -- In the first regular season meeting between B-W and JCU, on Jan. 16, 2008 in Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, the Blue Streaks defeated the Yellow Jackets, 80-73. JCU was led by 5'7" freshman guard/ forward Lee Jennings with a game-high 28 points and added a team-high eight rebounds. Also for the Blue Streaks, 5'10" junior center Erin Zahariev had 18 points, 5'7" junior guard Rachael Price scored 16 and 5'7" sophomore guard Whitney Hamilton had 10. B-W was led by 5'10" senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) with 16 points. In addition, 5'8" senior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and 5'6" junior point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Parma Heights Holy Name) scored a season- 14 points.
B-W Information and Probable Starters -- As a team, B-W scores 70.2 points per game and allows 55.7 ppg. to its opponents for a plus 14.4 ppg. differential. The Yellow Jackets grab 41.1 rpg. and allow 34.4 rpg. for a plus 6.7 differential. B-W shoots 43.7 percent from the field (606-of-1387), including 34.1 percent from three point range (87-of-255), and makes 67.0 percent of its foul shots (315-of-470).
Look for Head Coach Cheri Harrer to start 5'8" junior two-time All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Parma Hts. Holy Name), Quiring and 5'8" senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood). On the inside, look for Stacia Shrider to start at forward and 6'2" sophomore Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) will start at center. To date, Eskinazi-Budge scores a team-best 10.3 ppg., grabs 4.0 rpg. and leads in steals with 39. She also is second with 20 blocked shots and has 45 assists. Mondrach scores 8.2 ppg., grabs 3.1 rpg., has a team-leading 23 three-pointers and has 40 assists. Quiring scores 7.4 ppg., has 13 threepointers and is tied with Budge for the team lead in assists with 45. Shrider scores 5.2 ppg. and tops the team with 7.0 rpg. She also has 39 assists and 21 steals. Brough scores 7.5 ppg., is second with 5.7 rpg. and tops the team with a single-season school-record 45 blocked shots.
Off the bench, look for Harrer to use Flowers, 5'6" junior point guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville), 5'10" sophomore forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/ Marion Steele), 5'10" sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), 5'11 freshman guard/forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and 5' 7" freshman guards and twin sisters Carrie and Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon). Flowers scores 7.0 ppg., grabs 4.2 rpg. and has 29 assists and 24 steals. Butzer has played in 11 games since returning from a preseason injury and scores 2.6 ppg. and has 12 assists. Samara scores 4.6 ppg. and grabs 3.8 rpg. and shoots 55.6% from the field. Farage scores 3.5 ppg. and grabs 1.8 rpg. Schroeder scores 7.0 ppg., grabs 2.7 rpg. and has 15 three-pointers. Courtney Ritzler scores 5.9 ppg., grabs 2.3 rpg., has canned 20 three-pointers and has 34 assists and 25 steals. Carrie Ritzler scores 1.8 ppg., has eight three-pointers, 33 assists and 16 steals.
In B-W's Last Game versus Muskingum College on Feb. 16 in New Concord: Baldwin-Wallace -- 61, Muskingum -- 51 --In B-W's last game, a 61-51 win over OAC rival Muskingum College on Feb. 16 at the Muskingum College Recreation Center in New Concord, the Yellow Jackets were led by Ariel Brough with her first career double-double and a record. Brough scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and had five blocked shots to set a single-season school-record with 45 overall. In addition, Selena Eskinazi-Budge had 12 points in the win. The Yellow Jackets led by 24 points at halftime, 40-16, and cruised to the win.
Scouting the John Carroll Blue Streaks -- As a team, John Carroll averages 70.2 ppg. and allows 66.4 ppg. to its opponents for a plus 3.8 ppg. differential. The Blue Streaks grab 41.0 rpg. and allow 43.4 rpg. for a minus 2.4 differential. JCU shoots 40.5% from the field (626-of-1545), including 28.8% from three point range (124-of-431), and makes 63.7% of its foul shots (238-of-375).
Look for head coach Kristie Maravalli to start Rachel Price, Whitney Hamilton and Lee Jennings in the backcourt. In the post, the Blue Streaks will look to 5'10" sophomore Caitlin Sureck and Erin Zahariev. Jennings tops the team in scoring with 15.4 ppg., grabs 4.8 rpg. and tops the team with 65 assists and 35 steals. Price is second in scoring with 11.9 ppg. and grabs 3.5 rpg. She is second on the team in assists with 51 and leads in steals with 47 and three-pointers with 40. Sureck scores 9.6 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 rpg. and blocked shots with 47. Hamilton scores 9.2 ppg and adds 3.2 rebounds. She also has 16 triples, 42 assists and 27 steals. Zahariev scores 7.3 ppg., grabs 4.7 rpg. and has 26 assists and 21 steals.
Off the bench, look for Maravalli to utilize 5'11" sophmore forward Laura Gruber, 5'7 junior guard Lana Kiko, and 5'10 junior forward Alex D'Amico and 5'11" senior forward Abby Baum. D'Amico scores 6.1 ppg., grabs 2.8 rpg. and has 20 assists, 15 steals and 13 blocked shots. Gruber scores 5.5 ppg. and grabs 3.5 rpg. Kiko scores 3.6 ppg.
In JCU's Last Game at Marietta College on Feb. 16 in Marietta: JCU -- 90, Marietta -- 78 -- In JCU's last game, a 90-78 win on Feb. 16 at Marietta Collge at the Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, the Blue Streaks were led by Alex D'Amico with a career-hightying 21 points. In addition, Lee Jennings scored 16 points and had seven assists, Erin Zahariev scored 13 points, Sureck had 12, and Price had 11. The Blue Streaks led by 15 points at the intermission, 46-31.

The Division III National Polls -- B-W was ranked 12th nationally in last week's WBCA/ USA TODAY Division III Coaches poll and 17th in the d3hoops.com Internet Web site Division III poll (both released on Feb. 12). The polls are released usually the Tuesday of each week.
First NCAA Division III Regional Poll (on Feb. 14) -- In the first weekly NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region poll (Feb. 14, 2008), B-W (19-2 overall/ 19-2 region record) is ranked fourth and behind No.1 Thomas More (Ky.) College (21-0/ 18-0), No.2 Hope (Mich.) College (20-0/ 18-0) and No.3 DePauw (Ind.) University (19-3/ 16-1). OAC rivals Ohio Northern University (16-5/ 15-5) and Wilmington College (16-5/ 14-5) are No.5 and No.6, respectively.
Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 368 victories. Harrer is 368-128 in her career for a .741 winning percentage.
Ariel Brough Breaks Single-Season and Career Blocked Shots Records -- With her five blocked shots against Muskingum last Saturday, Feb. 16, Ariel Brough broke the B-W's career record for blocked shots and now has 76 overall, including a school singleseason record of 45.
Budge and Brough Named to the ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV First Team -- Selena Eskinazi-Budge, who carries a 3.86 grade point average in pre-physical therapy), and Ariel Brough, who carries a 3.93 grade average in political science, each were named to the ESPN THE MAGAZINE College Division Academic All-District IV team and now qualify for the national ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-America ballot.
All Five Starters will be Nominated for Academic All-OAC -- Both Selena Eskinazi-Budge and Ariel Brough are joined by senior forward Stacia Shrider, junior two-time All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach and junior point guard Rachael Quiring as candidates for Academic All-OAC accolades.
