BEREA, OHIO — Senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) scored a game-high 15 points as the 17th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women’s basketball team defeated Heidelberg College, 84-59, tonight (Friday, January 5, 2008) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With its victory, B-W is 11-1 overall, in first place in the OAC at 4-1 and has won six straight games. B-W's only loss this season was in overtime. With its loss, Heidelberg is now 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the OAC.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 18-5 lead at the 13:23 mark when sophomore forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/ Marion Steele) scored on a layup. B-W increased its lead to 16 points on two separate occasions with the last being at 26-10 at the 9:33 mark when Eskinazi-Budge made a layup.
Heidelberg closed to within seven points at 29-22 with 4:34 left when senior guard Amanda Campbell canned her second straight three-pointer. B-W then outscored the Student Princes 7-1 the remainder of the first stanza to lead at halftime by 13 points at 36-23.
In the second half, B-w equaled its 16-point lead at the 19:01 mark when senior two-time All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Parma Heights Holy Name) made a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 31 points at 70-39 at the 7:14 mark when sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye) made a layup.
In addition to Eskinazi-Budge, sophomore center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) had 12 points and freshman guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) had 10 points. Heidelberg was led by senior guard Amanda Campbell’s 13 points and senior guard Maureen Hunter had 12.
The B-W women will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 9 when they travel to Westerville and play Otterbein College at 7:30 p.m. The next home game is Saturday, Jan. 12 against Muskingum College at 3:00 p.m.

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will host Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg College on Friday, January 4, 2008 in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 7:30 p.m. This is the fifth OAC contest for the Yellow Jackets and the first of two regular season matchups with Heidelberg.

The Pregame Setup -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will look to win its fifth straight game and stay in first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference when it hosts rival Heidelberg College in the first of two regular season meetings between the two schools.
The Yellow Jackets, who are ranked in this week's d3hoops.com poll and 17th in the WBCA poll (released on Jan. 1), enter this game with a 10-1 overall and 3-1 OAC record following a 65-60 win against previously 19th-ranked Calvin (Mich.) College in the championship game of the B-W Holiday Invitational Tournament on December 29 in Berea. B-W also beat Hanover (Ind.) College in the tourney opener, 73-56. Since opening its OAC season with an overtime loss, B-W has since beaten Mount Union College (58-39), Ohio Northern University (79-52) and previously 22nd-ranked Wilmington College (71-67).
The Student Princes enter this game with a 5-5 overall and 1-3 OAC record following their 70-66 overtime loss against Cornell (Iowa) College on Dec. 31 in Tiffin. Before the loss to Cornell, Heidelberg had won three straight games after opening the season with a 2-4 mark.
The B-W Versus Heidelberg All-Time Series -- This is the 62nd meeting in women's basketball between B-W and Heidelberg. B-W leads the all-time series, 39-22, and the Yellow Jackets have won nine straight times against the 'Berg, including a pair a year ago. Last season, B-W beat Heidelberg, 74-50, on January 16, 2007 in Berea and 66-58 in overtime on Jan. 31, 2007 in Tiffin. The first-ever meeting was during the 1965-66 season when B-W won, 59-37. The last Heidelberg win against B-W came on Jan. 20, 2004 when the Student Princes won, 82-64, in Tiffin.
In Last Year's First B-W vs. Heidelberg Game in Berea: B-W -- 74, Heidelberg -- 50 -- In last year's first game between the Yellow Jackets and the Student Princes, on Jan. 16 in Berea, B-W won, 74-50, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium. B-W was led by current 5'10'' senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) with 12 points. In addition, graduate All-OAC and Academic All-OAC standout Michelle White and current 5'8" senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) each scored 10 points. A total of 15 student-athletes saw action in the game for the Yellow Jackets. The 'Berg's top scorer and rebounder was current 5'8'' junior guard Brittany Skolnicki with 13 points and seven caroms.
In Last Year's Second B-W vs. Heidelberg Game in Tiffin: B-W -- 66, Heidelberg -- 58 in overtime -- In last year's second matchup between B-W and Heidelberg, the Yellow Jackets escaped out of Tiffin with a 66-58 victory in overtime on Jan. 31, 2007. Heidelberg rallied from a 10-point second half defecit to force overtime, but B-W outscored the Student Princes, 13-5, in the extra period to achieve the victory. Flowers led B-W with 15 points and White scored 10. Current 5'8" senior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local) had a team-high 11 rebounds. The Student Princes got a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds from current 5'10'' senior guard Maureen Hunter and current 5'6" senior guard Amanda Campbell had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. A key to the B-W win was outscoring the Student Princes on the road and at the free throw line, 24-8.
B-W Information and Probable Starters -- As a team, B-W scores 67.4 points per game and allows 54.3 ppg. to its opponents for a plus 13.1 ppg. differential. The Yellow Jackets grab 39.5 rpg. and allow 36.4 rpg. for a plus 3.1 differential. B-W shoots 40.7 percent from the field (273-of-671), including 32.9% from three point range (48-of-146), and makes 71% of its foul shots (147-of-207).
Look for Head Coach Cheri Harrer to start 5'9'' junior Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Holy Name) and 5'6" junior Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) in the backcourt along with 5'8" senior Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood). On the inside, look for 5'8" senior Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local) to start at forward and for 6'2" sophomore Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) to start at center. To date, Mondrach tallies 8.6 points per game, grabs 3.3 rebounds per game, has canned 13 three-pointers and has passed for 19 assists. Quiring scores 8.1 ppg. and leads the team in assists with 24. Brough averages 7.7 ppg. and 4.1 rpg. and tops the team with 21 blocked shots. Shrider scores 3.4 ppg. and tops the team with 6.6 rpg. Eskinazi-Budge scores a team -best 12.3 ppg. and leads in steals with 26.
Off the bench, look for Harrer to use the 5'10'' Flowers, 5'10" sophomore transfer forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/ Steele), 5'10" sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), 5'11 freshman forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and 5'7" freshman guards and twin sisters Carrie and Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon). Flowers, who led B-W in scoring a year ago, has 5.9 ppg. and also grabs 4.5 rpg. Courtney is tied for fifth in scoring at 6.2 ppg., grabs 2.4 rpg. and has 14 assists and is second on the team with 16 steals.
In B-W's Last Game versus Calvin (Mich.) at the B-W Tourney in Berea: Baldwin-Wallace--65, Calvin (Mich.)- 60 -- In B-W's last game, a 65-60 victory against Calvin (Mich.) College in the championship game of the B-W Holiday Invitational Tournament on December 29, 2007, the Yellow Jackets were led by Selena Eskinazi-Budge, Rachael Quiring, Amanda Mondrach and Courtney Ritzler as all four each scored 12 points. Budge was named as the tournament Most Valuable Player and joined on the all-tournament team by Ariel Brough, who led the B-W with six rebounds against Calvin, and Courtney Ritzler.
Scouting the Heidelberg Student Princes -- As a team, Heidelberg averages 62.7 ppg. and allows 58.1 ppg. to its opponents for a plus 4.6 ppg. differential. The Student Princes grab 36 rpg. and allow 36.11 rpg. for a minus 0.1 differential. Heidelberg shoots 36.6% from the field (218 of 595), including 28.7% from three point range, and makes 72.3% of its foul shots.
Look for veteran Head Coach Karen McConnell to start 5'6'' senior guard Amanda Campbell along with Skolnicki and either Hunter or 5'6'' junior guard Morgan Harrigan in the backcourt. In the post, 5'11'' freshman Jenny Miller and 6'0'' sophomore Stacey Richard round out the starting five. Skolnicki tops the team in scoring with 14.9 ppg. and adds 4.1 rpg. Campbell is second with 11.9 ppg. and also leads the team in rebounding with 7.2 rpg. Hunter is third in scoring at 8.0 ppg., while Richard is fifth at 6.1 ppg. Miller adds 4.7 ppg, while Harrigan averages 6.8 ppg, fourth on the team.
Off the bench, look for McConnell to primarly utilize 5'10'' senior forward Hollie Knott, 5'11'' junior forward Sarah Kesse and 5'6'' sophomore guard Jessica Jennette. Knott averages 3.4 ppg and has also tallied 27 total rebounds.
In Heidelberg's Last Game Against Cornell (Iowa) in Tiffin: Heidelberg -- 66, Cornell-- 70 -- In Heidelberg's last game, a 70-66 overtime loss against Cornell (Iowa) College on Dec. 31, the 'Berg was led by senior guard Amanda Campbell who picked up a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds and also led in assists with four. The loss dropped Heidelberg's record to 5-5 and ended a three game win streak. In addition to Campbell's team high 22, two other Student Princes were in double figures including Brittany Skolnicki with 17 and Morgan Harrigan with 11. On defense, Heidelberg was led again by Campbell with eight defensive rebounds and four steals.

Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 357 victories. Harrer is 357-127 in her career and stands 2nd on the active Ohio Athletic Conference win list and 23rd on the list of active coaches in all of Division III.
Budge is the MVP and Two More Make All-Tournament Team -- Selena Eskinazi-Budge was named as the B-W Holiday Invitational Tournament Most Valuable Player and she was joined on the all-tournament team by Ariel Brough and Courtney Ritzler. In addition, the all-tourney team also was comprised on Calvin (Mich.) College's Marcia Harris, Hanover (Ind.) College Molly Martin and Allegheny (Pa.) College's Emilie Simone.

Much Better at the Foul Line -- Since its first two games of the season, when B-W connected on just 19-of-43 foul shots for just 44.2 percent, the Yellow Jackets have gotten MUCH, MUCH better and have connected on 128-of-164 attempts in the past nine games for an outstanding 78 percent.
