BEREA, OHIO — Senior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local) scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds today (Saturday, January 26, 2008) as the 23rd-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women’s basketball team defeated Capital University, 58-40, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Capital Center in Columbus.
With its victory, B-W is 15-2 overall and 8-2 in the OAC and has beaten the Crusaders 19 of the past 26 meetings. With its loss, Capital is now 11-6 overall and 5-5 in the OAC and has lost four straight OAC contests. The key to the win for the Yellow Jackets was shooting 51.1 percent from the floor on 23-of-45 attempts while holding Capital to 21.3 percent shooting from the field on 13-of-61 attempts , including 0-of-15 from three-point range.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 18-8 lead with 12:05 left when senior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) made a jump shot. B-W extended its lead to 13 points at 24-11 with 7:19 left when sophomore center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) made a layup. B-W also led at halftime, 29-20.
In the second half, Capital outscored B-W , 6-5, to get within eight points at 34-26 with 14:49 remaining when sophomore guard Kristen Richardson scored on a layup. B-W then went on a 8-1 run to build its lead to 42-27 with 10:59 left when junior guard Rachel Quiring (Brunswick/ Parma Hts. Holy Name) made two foul shots following a technical foul on the Crusader bench.
Undaunted, the Crusaders went on a 11-0 run to close to four points at 42-38 when sophomore guard Chelsea Ruoff made a jumper in the lane. B-W responded with an 10-0 run to lead by 14 points at 52-38 with 4:20 left in the game on two foul shots by senior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local), freshmen Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon) naled back-to-back three-pointers and Ritzler added another layup. Then Budge scored on a layup with 2:33 left and a pair of foul shots with 20 seconds remaining for the biggest lead of the game at 18 points at 58-40.
In addition to Shrider, Schroeder scored 10 points. Capital did not have a double figure scorer.
The B-W women will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 30 when they host OAC rival Mount Union College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 7:30 p.m.

The B-W Versus Capital All-Time Series -- This is the 55th meeting between B-W and Capital in women's basketball with the Crusaders leading the all-time series, 37-17, including two straight wins and including a 72-64 overtime victory in the last meeting on December 1, 2007 in Columbus. Two of the past three contests have gone into overtime. The firstever meeting between B-W and Capital was in 1982-83 and Capital won the contest by a 103-50 score. Brough averages 7.9 ppg., is second with 4.8 rpg. and tops the team with 27 blocked shots. Quiring scores 7.7 ppg., leads the team with 35 assists. Off the bench, look for Harrer to use 5' 10" senior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore), 5' 10" sophomore transfer forward Sasha Samara (Amherst/ Steele), 5'10" sophomore forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), 5'11 freshman forward Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) and 5' 7" freshman guards and twin sisters Carrie and Courtney Ritzler (Fostoria/ Hopewell-Loudon). Scouting the Capital Crusaders -- As a team, Capital averages 70.4 ppg. and allows 59.5 ppg. to its opponents for a plus 10.9 ppg. differential. The Crusaders grab 41.5 rpg. and allow 35.1 rpg. for a plus 6.4 differential. Look for 22nd year veteran Head Coach Dixie Jeffers to start 5' 11" junior guard Heather McAlpin, 5'4" junior Katy Lafferty and 5'7" freshman Tara Harper in the backcourt and 5' 11" junior Caitlin Elsass and 5' 11" senior Tiffany Withers in the post. Off the bench, look for Kristen Richardson, 5' 6" junior guard Caitlin Graessle, 5' 9" sophomore guard Chelsea Ruoff, 5' 10" freshman forward Lindsey Watt and 5'7" sophomore guard Abbey Winland all to see action. Richardson, who has started 15-of-16 games this season, is second in scoring at 15.0 ppg., grabs 4.6 rpg., has passed for 44 assists and made a team-leading 32 steals and has canned 10 three-pointers. Graessle also has started 15-of-16 games and scores 11.1 ppg. and leads the team with 29 three-pointers. Ruoff scores 5.3 ppg. and has eight triples.

Tara Harper also scored a career-high 17 points, Heather McAlpin had 11 and both Tiffany Withers and Caitlin Graessle each scored 10.
