Third-Ranked Baldwin-Wallace Women Defeat Pitt-Greensburg (Pa.), 76-25, for Seventh Straight Victory

BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) scored a game-high 13 points as the third-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated the University of Pitt-Greensburg, 76-25, today (Tuesday, December 19, 2006) in a nonleague game in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The win was B-W's seventh straight.

With its victory, B-W is now 8-1 overall and idle until it plays Centre (Ky.) College on December 29 in the first round of the Wittenberg University Kiwanis Holiday Tournament in Springfield.  With its loss, Pitt-Greensburg is now 4-5 overall and has lost two straight.

Mondrach was the only double figure scorer for the Yellow Jackets while no Pitt-Greensburg player reached double digits.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets had runs of 11-0 and 15-0 to build a 27-point advantage at the intermission at 40-13. B-W raced out to a 6-0 lead at the 18:07 mark when senior forward Jessica Latimer (Brooklyn) scored on a layup. Following a Bobcat free throw, B-W went on its 11-0 run to lead 17-1 at the 13:21 mark when freshman guard Sandra Busser (Parma/Padua) made a three-pointer. Following a Pitt-Greensburg trey, B-W had its 15-0 run to lead by 28 points at 32-4 with 5:06 remaining when junior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) made a jump shot. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as many as 31 points on three separate occassions before leading by 27 at the half.  In the second half, the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as many as 51 points at 76-25 with 25 seconds left in the game when sophomore backup forward Megan Abbey (Elmore/Woodmore) made a triple.

The Pregame Setup-- The nationally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to seven straight games when it travel to Greensburg, Pa. to play the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats in a nonleague contest.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 7-1 overall record following their 71-53 win against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College on December 16 in Marietta. B-W has won six straight games as it has beaten crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University (78-50) and traditional rival Oberlin College (107-39) as well as OAC rivals Capital University (53-50), Mount Union College (77-52), Ohio Northern University (65-55) and Marietta.

The Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats take a 4-4 record into the matchup following a 72-63 loss to Penn State Behrend on December 9. The game will end a 10-day layoff. Prior to the loss, the Bobcats were on a three-game win streak.

The B-W Versus Pitt-Greensburg All-Time Series -- This is the first time that B-W and Pitt-Greensburg have ever met in a women's basketball game.

B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Look for Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer to count on veteran players to lead the Yellow Jackets. Overall, Harrer goes deep on her bench with a 12-player rotation all seeing double-digit minutes on the floor.

Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Holy Name) is expected to start at a wing position with Michelle White (Hudson). On the inside, look for 5'10" junior Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) and 5'8" junior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local). Sophomore 5'6" point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) will run the offense. Flowers leads the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game, is first with 25 steals, averages 5.9 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 14 assists. White, a two-time All-OAC player and Academic All-OAC, tallies 7.6 ppg. shoots 52.2 percent from the floor and hauls in 4.3 rpg. Mondrach, an All-OAC player and 2005-2006 OAC Freshman of the Year, averages 7.0 ppg, shoots 38.6 percent and has 11 assists. Shrider scores 6.4 ppg., is first on the team with 6.4 rpg. and is third on the team with 13 assists. Quiring averages 3.1 ppg., leads the team with 21 assists, and has 10 steals.

Off the bench, look for 5'6" senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/ Padua Fransiscan), 5'8" senior power forward Jessica Latimer (Brooklyn), 5'8" sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/ Madison), 5'8" junior transfer guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood via Miami of Florida), 6'2" freshman post Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) and 5'5" freshman point guard Sandra Busser (Parma/Padua) all to see action. Jaworski averages 4.5 ppg., has 11 assists, and is shooting 46.4 percent from the floor. Latimer averages 5.4 ppg., and pulls down 3.4 rpg. Mottayaw scores 4.1 ppg. and has 7 steals. Busser averages 4.6 ppg. and 1.1 rpg. Eskinazi-Budge is second on the team in scoring at 9.4 ppg, grabs, 4.1 rpg., and has 10 assists.

Scouting the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg -- Look for Head Coach Carol Gelet to start 5'4" junior Nicole Beggs and 5'7" freshman Julie Ehrman in the backcourt, 5'7" junior Tiffany Menhorn and 5'7" sophomore Nicole Reiser at the forward positions and 5'11" freshman Kelsey Wilcox at center. Reiser tops the team in scoring at 14.4 ppg. and assists with 33, and she also grabs 5.5 rpg. Menhorn is second in scoring at 11.8 ppg., grabs 4.9 rpg., and leads the team in blocked shots with eight and assists with 15. Wilcox tallies 11.6 ppg., and leads the team with 7.4 rpg. Ehrman averages 9.8 ppg. Beggs scores 4.3 ppg.

Off the bench, look for 5'8" junior guard/forward Shannon Thomas, 5'11" freshman forward Danielle Maloney and 5'7" freshman guard Lindsay Littler to all see action. Thomas averages 3.0 ppg. and pulls down 2.5 rpg. Maloney tallies 6.9 ppg. Littler scores 1.0 ppg.

In B-W's Last Game versus Marietta on December 16 in Berea: B-W -- 71, MAR -- 53 -- In B-W's last game, a 71- 53 win against OAC rival Marietta College in Berea, the Yellow Jackets were led by Carly Flowers with a game-high 15 points and six rebounds. She also had five assists and five steals and canned six-of-nine shots from the floor. In addition to Flowers, the Yellow Jackets got a career-high 13 points, including three-of-three shooting from three-point range from Sandra Busser and 12 points and game-high nine rebounds from Stacia Shrider. B-W shot 44.1 percent from the field on 26-of-59 shooting, including nine-of-16 from three-point range. B-W also had 22 assists for its 26 basketsscored and forced 26 turnovers with its defense.

In Pitt-Greensburg's Last Game versus Behrend on December 9 in Erie, Pa.: Pitt-Greensburg -- 63, Behrend --72 -- In its last game, the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats lost to Penn State-Behrend, 72-62, on Saturday (Dec. 9), in Erie, Pennsylvania. The loss ended a three-game winning streak. Despite the loss for Pitt-Greensburg, Kelsey Wilcox had a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Also scoring in double digits was Nicole Reiser with 18 points and five rebounds and Julie Ehrman had 15 markers.

Third "Elite Eight" Appearance in NCAA Tourney in Last Eight Years -- When B-W played in the "Elite Eight" of the 2005-2006 NCAA Division III National Tournament, it marked the thid time in school history and the third time in the past eight years.

Ten Straight 20-Win Seasons for B-W -- The B-W women have 10 straight seaons with 20 or more victories.

Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 335 victories. Harrer is 335-120 in her career with a .736 winning percentage and is in her 17th season at B-W.

Current National Rankings -- B-W was ranked third in the last WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Division III poll and eighth in the d3hoops.com poll. The "OFFICIAL" Division III Great Lakes Region poll, which is selected by the NCAA Selection Committee does not come out until after January 1, 2007. The NCAA Selection Committee uses that poll as criterion to decide who gets into the 2007 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
