Westerville for 12th Straight Victory and Stay Unbeaten in the OAC
BEREA, OHIO -- Junior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) had a career-high 25 points as the fourth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College, 84-69 tonight (Wednesday, January 10, 2007) in the Rike Center in Westerville. The win kept B-W tied for first place in the OAC with a 7-0 mark and set up a showdown for first place this Saturday at 12th-ranked Wilmington College.
The win was B-W's 12th straight this season and seventh in a row versus Otterbein. With its victory, B-W, ranked fourth nationally by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association)/ USA TODAY Division III Top-25, is now 13-1 overall. With its loss,Otterbein fell to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the OAC.
In addition to Flowers, sophomore guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville) scored 12 points for the Yellow Jackets. Otterbein was led by junior guard Sara Fee with 16 points.
In the first half, Otterbein jumped out to an early 6-0 lead at the 17:56 mark, but the Yellow Jackets came back to take thier first lead at 12-10, with a three-pointer by junior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local) at the 14:24 mark. After exchanging baskets with the Cardinals, the Yellow Jackets would have the largest lead at 32-25, with a jump shot by freshman forward Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) with 06:09 left in the first half. The Cardinals would come back with a 15-8 run, including a half-ending three-pointer by Ana Gamble to tie the game at the end of the half, 40-40.
In the second half, with the exception of being tied at 42-42 with a layup by Katy Miller at the 18:28 mark, the Yellow Jackets expanded their biggest lead to 16 points with 39 seconds left in the game clock with a free throw by Butzer. Flowers made the last points of the game with a couple of free throws to seal her career-high.
The Yellow Jacket women next play on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play OAC foe Wilmington College in at the Fred Raizk Arena at 3:00 p.m. B-W and Wilmington, ranked No. 12 in Division III, are currently tied for first place in the OAC.

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to Westerville, Ohio on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 to play Ohio Athletic rival Otterbein College at the Rike Center at 7:30 p.m. This is the first game of two regular season meetings between the two schools.

The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 40-21, including six straight victories. B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Look for Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer to count on veteran players to lead the Yellow Jackets. Overall, Harrer goes deep on her bench with a 12-player rotation all seeing double-digit minutes on the floor. Sophomore 5'8" All-OAC guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Holy Name) is expected to start at a wing position with 5'9" senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Michelle White (Hudson). On the inside, look for 5'10" junior Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) and 5'8" junior forward Jessica Lattimer(Brooklyn). Sophomore 5'6" point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) will run the offense. Flowers leads the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game, has a team and OAC-leading 36 steals, grabs 5.5 rebounds per game and shoots 55 percent from the floor (67-of-123). Mondrach, an All-OAC player and 2005-2006 OAC Freshman of the Year, averages 9.2 ppg. and has 17 assists and 12 steals. White, a two-time All-OAC player and Academic All-OAC, scores 7.8 ppg., grabs 3.8 rpg., shoots 54 percent from the floor (39-of-72) and tops the team with 11 blocked shots. Latimer scores 6.0 ppg., pulls down 4.2 rpg. and shoots 58 percent from the floor (28-of-48). Quiring averages 4.2 ppg., second the team with 28 assists and has 11 steals.
Off the bench, look for 5'6'' senior Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski, 5'8" junior power forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local), 5'8" sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/ Madison), 5'8" junior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood via Miami of Florida), 6'2" freshman post Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty), 5'6" sophomore guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville) and 5'5" freshman point guard Sandra Busser (Parma/Padua) all to see action. Roth and Esterkamp are tied for the team scoring lead at 14.4 ppg. Roth also grabs 3.2 rpg. and tops the team with 24 three-pointers, 67 assists and 44 steals. Esterkamp grabs 5.3 rpg., shoots 53.8 percent from the floor and has 32 assists and 24 steals. Miller scores 11.7 ppg., leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 rpg. and has 27 assists and 17 steals. Current National Rankings -- B-W was ranked third in the last WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Division III poll and eighth in the d3hoops.com poll. The "OFFICIAL" Division III Great Lakes Region poll, which is selected by the NCAA Selection Committee does not come out until mid-to-late January, 2007. The NCAA Selection Committee uses that poll as criterion to decide who gets into the 2007 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
