Baldwin-Wallace College Women Defeat Muskingum, 81-71, in New Concord

BEREA, OHIO — Senior forward Jessica Latimer (Brooklyn) scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College, 81-71, today (Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007) at the Muskingum College Recreation Center in New Concord.

With its win, B-W is 18-5 overall and 12-4 in the OAC and gauranteed itself a home game for the first round of the upcoming OAC Tournament with two games remaining during the regular season. The Yellow Jackets have now beaten the Fighting Muskies 12 straight times.  Muskingum fell to 6-17 overall and 4-12 in the OAC.

In addition to Latimer, sophmore guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) had 12 points and  senior guard Michelle White had 11 points.  Muskingum was led by sophomore forward Jessica McKenzie with a game-high 25 points. She was aided by sophomore guard Katie Guinsler with 19 points and sophomore guard Tiffany Youel had 14.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets built an early 7-2 lead at the 17:12 mark when Mondrach made a three-pointer. Muskingum went on a 8-0 run to lead 10-7 at the 15:26 mark when Guinsler made a three-pointer for the first of two three-point leads. B-W then outscored  the Muskies 39-16 to lead by as many as 20 points at 46-26 when sophomore guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville) made a jump shot with 55 seconds left before the intermission. B-W also led at halftime, 48-29.

In the second half, Muskingum outscored B-W 38-22 to close to within 70-67 with 3:39 left when senior forward Jessica Miller made a three-pointer. Undaunted B-W outscored the Fighting Muskies 11-4 down the stretch to secure the victory.

The Yellow Jacket women next play on Wednesday February 14, at the DeCarlo Center  in University Heights as they face cross-town rival John Carroll University at 7:30 p.m.

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to New Concord, Ohio on Saturday, February 10, 2007 to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College in a key OAC game at 3:00 p.m. in the Muskingum Recreation Center. This is the second of two OAC regular season games between B-W and Muskingum.

The Pregame Setup -- The nationally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to New Concord, Ohio to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College in the final of two OAC regular season meetings. B-W will be looking for its 12th straight win against Muskingum.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 17-5 overall and 11-4 OAC record following their 93-91 loss against Otterbein College on Wednesday, February 7 in Berea. B-W is currently in third place in the OAC and two games behind league-leaders Wilmington College and Capital University (both at 13-2), one game ahead of fourth place Ohio Northern University (10-5) and two games ahead of fifth place Otterbein (9-6).

Muskingum enters this game at 6-16 overall and 4-11 in the OAC following its 79-75 victory against Marietta College on Wednesday in Marietta. The Fighting Muskies ended a three-game losing streak with their win at Marietta.

The B-W Versus Muskingum All-Time Series -- This is the 52nd all-time meeting between longtime rivals B-W and Muskingum in women's basketball. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 29-22, including 11 straight victories. B-W beat the Muskies, 90-64, in the first meeting this season in Berea on Jan. 6. The last Muskingum victory came on January 10, 2001 in New Concord, 82-63. Muskingum won the first-ever meeting in 1965-66 by the score of 49-26.

In the Last B-W versus Muskingum Meeting on January 6, 2007 in New Concord: Baldwin-Wallace -- 90, Muskingum -- 64-- Junior 5'10" forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) scored a career-high 24 points as the Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Muskingum College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The win was B-W's 11th straight versus the Fighting Muskies. In addition to Flowers, 5'8" sophomore guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Holy Name) and 5'9" senior guard Michelle White (Hudson) each scored 13 points for the Yellow Jackets. Muskingum was led by 6'0" sophomore forward Jessica McKenzie with 19 points and six rebounds. The keys to the win was B-W shooting 56.3 percent from the floor on 36-of-64 attempts and forcing the Muskies into making 22 turnovers.

B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Look for Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer to count on veteran players to lead the Yellow Jackets. Overall, Harrer goes deep on her bench with a 12-player rotation all seeing double-digit minutes on the floor. Amanda Mondrac is expected to start at a wing position with Michelle White. On the inside, look for Flowers and 5'8" junior forward Jessica Lattimer (Brooklyn). Sophomore 5'6" point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) will run the offense. Flowers leads the team in scoring with 11.1 points per game, has a team and OAC-leading 48 steals, grabs 5.1 rebounds per game and shoots 53.6 percent from the floor (103-of-192 attempts). Mondrach, an All-OAC player and 2005-2006 OAC Freshman of the Year, averages 9.5 ppg. and has 31 assists and 18 steals. White, a two-time All-OAC player and Academic All-OAC, scores 7.5 ppg., grabs 3.8 rpg., shoots 50.4 percent from the floor (61-of-121) and second on team with 21 blocked shots. Latimer scores 5.9 ppg., pulls down 4.5 rpg. and shoots 52.5 percent from the floor (42-of-80). Quiring averages 4.8 ppg., leads the team with 52 assists and has 18 steals.

Off the bench, look for 5'6'' senior Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/ Padua), Shrider, Leah Mottayaw, 5'9" junior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood), 6'2" freshman post Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty), Jessica Butzer and 5'5" freshman point guard Sandra Busser (Parma/Padua) all to see action. Jaworski averages 3.9 ppg. and is second with 15 three-pointers. Shrider scores 6.6 ppg., leads the team with 6.2 rpg. and has 34 assists and 30 steals. Mottayaw scores 4.1 ppg. and is second on the squad with 17 three-pointers. Busser scores 2.7 ppg. Eskinazi-Budge is third on the team in scoring at 9.0 ppg, grabs, 3.2 rpg. and is second with 35 steals. Butzer is scoring 5.7 ppg. and has 29 assists. Brough scores 3.5 ppg., grabs 2.6 rpg. and leads B-W with 24 blocked shots.

Scouting the Muskingum College Fighting Muskies -- Look for Head Coach Beth Fox to start 5'5" sophomore Tiffany Youel and 5'6" sophomore Jessica Lenhart to start in the backcourt, 5'7" senior Elizabeth Guinsler in the wing, and 5'11" senior Leah Miller and 6'0" sophomore Jessica Mckenzie to start in the post. Youel averages 11.5 ppg., grabs 3.5 rpg. and leads the team with 37 three-pointers and 95 assists. Lenhart made her first start of the season at Maruetta and scores 1.4 ppg. and has 14 steals. Guinsler averages 8.9 ppg., grabs 3.4 rpg., has 27 triples and shoots 81.8 percent from the foul line. Miller averages 9.3 ppg.,grabs 6.0 rpg., has 25 three-pointers and 42 assists and is third on the team with 28 steals. McKenzie averages team-leading 17.7 ppg., leads the team in rebounds with 8.0 rpg., shoots 57.5 percent from the floor on 154-of-268 attempts, has 40 assists and is first on the team with 40 steals.

Off the bench, look for 5'4" sophomore guard Laura Gibson, 5'6" sophomore guard Mallory Moore, 5'10" senior forward Crystal Berry and 5'10" senior post Kortney Kaser to receive most of the playing time. Gibson averages 4.9 ppg. and has 17 three-pointers. Moore averages 4.1 ppg. and has 12 triples. Berry averages 3.3 ppg. Kaser averages 3.4 ppg.

In B-W's Last Game versus Otterbein on February 7 in Berea, Ohio: Otterbein -- 93, Baldwin-Wallace -- 91 -- In B-W's last game, a 93-91 loss against Otterbein College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gym in Berea on Wednesday (Feb. 7) night, Rachael Quiring led the Yellow Jackets with a career-high 16 points. In addition, Leah Mottayaw came off the bench and had a career-high 14 points, including four three-pointers, Stacia Shrider had 13 points and six rebounds, Amanda Mondrach had 12 points and Jessica Latimer had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Otterbein made 65.5 percent of its field goals on 36-of-55 shooting, including 12-of-20 three-pointers.

In Muskingum's Last Game versus Marietta on February 7 in Marietta, Ohio: Muskingum -- 79, Marietta -- 75-- In Muskingum's last game, a 79-75 victory versus Marietta College in Marietta on Wednesday night, the Fighting Muskies were led in scoring by Jessica McKenzie with 25 points and seven rebounds. In addition, Elizabeth Guinsler scored 19 points and Tiffany Youel came off the bench to scored 14 points and pass for six assists. Keys to the Muskingum win were making eight three-pointers and 15-of-18 foul shots.

Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 345 victories. Harrer is 345-124 in her career with a .736 winning percentage and is in her 17th season at B-W.
