BEREA, OHIO -- Junior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local) had a career-high 15 points as the fifth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College, 77-52, tonight (Wednesday, December 6, 2006) in the Timken Physical Education Building in Alliance. The win was B-W's fourth straight.
With its win, B-W is now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. Its only loss is a 68-66 buzzer-beater to top-ranked and defending national champion Hope (Mich.) College on November 18. Mt. Union evens its overall slate at 3-3 and is 0-1 in the OAC.
In addition to Shrider, the Yellow Jackets got 14 points and nine rebounds from junior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) and 10 points from senior guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/Padua). Mt. Union was led by freshman guard Annie Montgomery with nine points.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets broke from a 2-2 tie to lead by as many as nine points on four seperate occasions, with the last one being at 23-14 at the 5:26 mark when Shrider hit a short jumper. B-W then increased its lead to 20 points at intermission to make the score 38-18.
In the second half, B-W went on a 12-2 run to lead by 30 points at 50-20 at the 14:09 mark when freshman center Ariel Brough (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) made a jump shot. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as much as 39 points at 63-24 at the 10:29 mark when Jaworski scored a lay-up and made a free throw to convert a three-point play. The Purple Raiders got as close as 23 points at 73-50 at the 2:32 mark when freshman forward Stef Schwartz made the second of two free throws.
The Yellow Jacket women will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 9 when they host OAC rival Ohio Northern University in the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 3:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 4-1 overall and 1-0 OAC record following their 53-50 victory versus 25th-ranked against Capital University last Saturday (Dec. 2) in Berea. B-W has won three straight games with victories against Case Western Reserve University (78-50), Oberlin College (107-39) and Capital.
The Purple Raiders enter this game with a 3-2 overall and 0-0 OAC record following their 55-43 loss against Westminster (Pa.) College last Wednesday in Alliance. Mount Union has lost its last two contests after opening the season with three straight wins.
The B-W Versus Mt. Union All-Time Series -- B-W and Mt. Union have previously met 63 times in women's basketball with the Mount Union leading the all-time series, 32-31. B-W won the last meeting in Alliance on February 8, 2006 by the score of 83-47. The Yellow Jackets have beaten the Purple Raiders seven straight times with the last Mt. Union -- Look for Head Coach Suzie Venet to start 5'6" junior point guard Ellie Geiger, 5'6'' freshman wing Meghan Simons, 5'9'' senior guard/forward Lauren Friedrich, and 5'9'' sophomore forward Brooke Ghilani and 5'9'' junior forward Ashley Ross in the post. Geiger averages 4.8 ppg. and passes for 1.4 assists per game. Simons tallies 8.0 ppg. and has canned a team-leading seven three-pointers. Friedrich leads the starters with 7.8 ppg. and pulls down 3.2 rpg. Ghilani leads the team in rebounding with 7.4 rpg. and scores 4.8 ppg. Ross scores 6.6 ppg. and grabs 5.4 rpg.

In Mt. Union's Last Game versus Westminster (Pa.) College on December 2 in Alliance: Westminster (Pa.) -- 55, Mount Union -- 43 -- In Mount Union's last game, a 55-43 loss to Westminster (Pa.) College in Alliance, the Purple Raiders dropped to 3-2 overall. Despite the loss, the Purple Raiders were led by freshman guard Hayley Drayer with 12 points and three steals. Junior point guard Ellie Geiger scored 10 points and freshman guard Megan Simons and senior guard/forward Lauren Friedrich each tallied six points. Ashley Ross and sophomore forward Brooke Ghilani led the team with five rebounds each.

B-W Picked to Win the 2006-2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Title by the OAC Coaches -- B-W was picked by the Ohio Athletic Conference basketball coaches to win the OAC Tournament title in 2006-2007.
