BEREA, OHIO — Junior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/Madison) each scored 15 points as the 23rd-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 84-39, today (Saturday, February 17, 2007) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. It was B-W's 25th straight victory against the Pioneer women dating back December 19, 1994.
With its win, B-W ends the rgular season at 19-6 overall and 13-5 in the OAC and will be the third seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament and host sixth-seed Mount Union College on Tuesday in Berea at 7:30 p.m. Marietta ends its season at 2-23 overall, 0-18 in the OAC and on a 14-game losing skein.
In addition to Flowers and Mottayaw for B-W, senior forward Jessica Latimer (Brooklyn) scored 12 points. Marietta was led by freshman Shawntae Cline with nine points.
In the first half, B-W jumped out to an 18-8 lead when Mottayaw made a layup at the 11:14 mark. Then the Pioneers went on a 5-0 run to get within five points at 18-13 when junior guard Justine Pagenhardt connected on two foul shots at the 10:07 mark. The Yellow Jackets then built their lead t o 17 points when Latimer hit two foul shots to lead 36-16 with 2:04 left in the half. Freshman forward Jamie Beckett connected on one-of-two foul shots at the the 14 second mark to make the score 36-20. Neither team scored in the final 14 seconds and headed to intermission at 36-20.
In the second half, B-W built their biggest lead of the game at 45 points when Mottayaw connected on three foul shots at the 11 second mark for the final score of 84-39.
The winner of the B-W versus Mt. Union game on Tuesday advances to the semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 22 and will play the winner of second-seed Capital University versus seventh-seed John Carroll University at 7:30 p.m. at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College on Saturday, February 17, 2007 in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 3:00 p.m. This is the second of two regular season games between the two schools, it is the final game of the 2006-2007 regular season and it is Seniors' Day. The 2007 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

Scouting the Marietta College Pioneers -- Look for Head Coach Ted Eskildsen to start 5'6" freshman Shawntae Cline and 5'7" junior Justine Pagenhardt in the backcourt, 5'6" senior Katie Chadwell and Beckett at the forward positions and Hess to play inside. Pagenhardt tops the team in scoring at 12.8 ppg. and grabs 3.3 rpg. She has 30 three-pointers and 50 assists. Beckett is second in scoring at 10.3 ppg. and grabs 8.1 rpg. Hess scores 7.7 ppg., grabs 6.0 rpg. and has 48 assists and 36 steals. Cline averages 4.3 ppg., grabs 3.9 rpg. and has 30 assists and 32 steals. Chadwell has started nine games and scores 1.4 ppg.
Off the bench, look for Coach Eskildsen to utilize 5'7" sophomore Amanda Carraher with 6.2 ppg., 5'8" junior Natalie Jackson with 2.1 ppg., 5'2" sophomore Nikki Driscoll with 1.2 ppg. and 5'11" sophomore Lyncee Perkey with 1.7 ppg. to all play.

Also in double figures were Jessica Latimer and Ariel Brough with 10 points each. B-W led at halftime by 19 points but could not withstand a second half surge by the Blue Streaks, who ended a 30-game losing streak to the Jackets' dating back to December 7, 1993.
In Marietta's Last Game versus Mount Union on February 15 in Marietta, Ohio: MUC -- 52, Marietta -- 45 -- In Marietta's last game, a 52-45 loss to Mount Union College in Marietta on Feb. 15 at the Ban Johnson Arena, the Pioneers were led by Tara Poling with 14 points. She was the only Marietta player to score double figures.

Seniors' Day -- The B-W athletic department will recognize four outstanding senior members of the Yellow Jacket varsity prior to its game with Marietta. They are three-year captain and Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski, forward Jessica Latimer, two-time All-OAC and two-time Academic All-OAC forward Michelle White and backup guard Shelly Altizer. The quartet have been responsible for three straight OAC regular season titles, one OAC Tournament title and two straight NCAA Division III Tournament berths, including advancing to the "Elite Eight" a year ago. Entering the Marietta game, the seniors have compiled a 91-21 record with a .689 winning percentage.
The Upcoming OAC Tournament -- The Yellow Jackets have already secured a home site for a first round OAC Tournament game on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The semifinals are on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m., and the 2007 OAC Championship Game is on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 3:00 p.m. Both the semifinals and finals are played at the site of the highest remaining seed.
