Third-Ranked Baldwin-Wallace Women Defeat Centre (Ky.), 82-41, for Eighth Straight Victory

BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) scored a game-high 16 points as the third-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team defeated the Centre College of Kentucky, 82-41, today (Friday, December 29, 2006) in the first round of the Wittenberg University Holiday Tournament at the Wittenberg HPER Center in Springfield, Ohio. The win was B-W's eighth straight.

With its victory, B-W is now 9-1 overall and will play either host Wittenberg or Edison State Community College in tomorrow's (Dec. 30) Championship Game at 5:30 p.m.  With its loss, Centre is now 3-6 overall and has lost two straight.

In addition to Mondrach, junior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) and senior Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/Padua) each had 14 points and senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-OAC forward Michelle White (Hudson) had 10 markers. Junior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local) led the Jackets' in rebounding with eight.  Sophomore guard Allison Denbow and junior guard Monica Vonderbrink each had eight points to lead Centre.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a quick, 8-0 lead at the 16:23 mark when junior guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge made the first of two foul shots. Following Centre's first basket at the 14:39 mark, B-W went on another 12-0 run to lead 20-2 with 10:22 left before halftime when senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-OAC forward Michelle White made a jump shot in the lane. The Jackets' then extended their lead to 32 points at 48-16 with 20 seconds left when senior Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski canned a pair of foul shots. The score remained that way at halftime.

In the second half, B-W extended its lead to as many as 43 points on two separate occassions with the last one being at 82-39 with 1:46 left in the game when sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/Madison) canned a jump shot.

Game Notes #10 vs. Centre (Ky.) College at Wittenberg Tournament

The Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to Springfield, Ohio to participate in the Wittenberg University Kiwanis Holiday Tournament at Wittenberg University on Friday and Saturday, December 29-30, 2006. The Yellow Jackets will play Centre College of Kentucky in its first game on Friday, Dec. 29 at 12:30 p.m. in the Wittenberg HPER Center. In the nightcap, host Wittenberg plays Edison Community College at 5:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played on Dec. 30 at 12:30 and 5:30, respectively.

The Pregame Setup -- The nationally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to eight straight games when the Yellow Jackets travel to Springfield, Ohio to take part in the Wittenberg University Tournament from December 29-30.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 8-1 overall following their 76-25 win against non-conference Pitt-Greensburg on December 19 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. B-W has won seven straight games as it has beaten crosstown rival Case Western Reserve University (78-50) and traditional rival Oberlin College (107-39) as well as OAC rivals Capital University (53-50), Mount Union College (77-52), Ohio Northern University (65-55), Marietta College (71-53), and Pitt-Greensburg consecutively.

Centre College Colonels take a 3-5 record into the matchup following a 73-56 loss to Transylvania State (Ky.) University on December 16 in Lexington, Kentucky.

The B-W Versus Centre (Ky.) All-Time Series -- B-W and Centre have previously met once in women's basketball with that meeting also taking place at the Wittenberg University Kwanis Tournament on December 28, 1995. The Yellow Jackets won that game by the score of 88-62.

B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Look for Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer to count on veteran players to lead the Yellow Jackets. Overall, Harrer goes deep on her bench with a 12-player rotation all seeing double-digit minutes on the floor.

Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Hts. Holy Name) is expected to start at a wing position with Michelle White (Hudson). On the inside, look for 5'10" junior Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) and 5'8" senior forward Jessica Lattimer (Brooklyn). Sophomore 5'6" point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) will run the offense. Flowers leads the team in scoring with 10.2 points per game, has a team and OAC-leading 27 steals, grabs 5.7 rebounds per game and shoots 54.1 percent from the floor (46-of-81). Mondrach, an All-OAC player and 2005-2006 OAC Freshman of the Year, averages 7.7 ppg. and has 12 assists and nine steals. White, a two-time All-OAC player and Academic All-OAC, scores 7.4 ppg., grabs 4.4 rpg., shoots 51 percent from the floor (26-of-51) and tops the team with eight blocked shots. Latimer 5.7 ppg., grabs 3.6 rpg. and shoots 50 percent from the floor (17-of-34). Quiring averages 3.7 ppg., tops the team with 22 assists and has 11 steals.

Off the bench, look for 5'6" senior guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/Paudua), 5'8" junior power forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local), 5'8" sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/ Madison), 5'8" junior transfer guard Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood via Miami of Florida), 6'2" freshman post Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) and 5'5" freshman point guard Sandra Busser(Parma/Padua) all to see action. Jaworski averages 4.6 ppg. and is second with seven three-pointers. Shrider scores 5.9 ppg., leads the team with 6.2 rpg. and has 15 assists and 12 steals. Mottayaw scores 4.3 ppg. and leads the squad with eight three-pointers. Busser scores 4.4 ppg. Eskinazi-Budge is second on the team in scoring at 9.1 ppg, grabs, 4.3 rpg. and is second with 19 steals. Brough scores 3.1 ppg. and grabs 2.8 rpg.

Scouting the Colonels of Centre College (Ky.)-- Look for Head Coach Wendie Austin-Robinson to start 5'5" sophomore Allison Denbow, 5'4" sophomore Jennifer Marees to start in the backcourt, 5'7" junior Monica Vonderbrink to play the wing and 5'8" sophomore Rebecca Rhule and 5'9" junior Lauren Clontz to play inside. Vonderbrink tallies 6.1 ppg., grabs 3.6 rpg. and is tied for second with nine three-pointers. Denbow scores 6.1 ppg., grabs 3.9 rpg, is second with 17 assists and leads the team in steals with 25. Marees scores 5.1 ppg. and also has nine three-pointers and 15 steals. Rhule scores 3.9 ppg. and grabs 2.5 rpg. and has started twice, including Centre's last game. Clontz scores 3.4 ppg.

Off the bench, look for 5'6" freshman Holly Goodman, 5'3" freshman Chrystal Claunch, 5'10 freshman Keonia Materson and 5'8" freshman forward Jenny Jones all to see action. Goodman started the first seven games of the season and tops the team in scoring at 12.4 ppg., grabs 3.8 rpg., tops the team with 10 three-pointers and is second on the team with 18 steals. Claunch is second in scoring at 8.1 ppg., grabs 1.9 rpg., and leads the team in assists with 19. Masterson scores 4.9 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 4.9 rpg. Jones, who has started six games this season, scores 3.9 ppg. and grabs 2.6 rpg.

In B-W's Last Game versus Pitt-Greensburg on December 19 in Greensburg: B-W -- 76, PG -- 25 -- In B-W's last game, a 76-25 blowout win against nonleague foe Pitt-Greensburg in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the Yellow Jackets won their seventh straight game. B-W was led in scoring by Amanda Mondrach with a game-high 13 points and was the only player in double figures. The Jackets' had runs of 11-0 and 15-0 in the first half and built a 40-13 lead at the intermission and led by as many as 51 points in the second half.

In Centre's Last Game versus Transylvania on December 16 in Lexington: Centre -- 56, Transylvania -- 73 -- In Centre's last game, a 73-56 loss at Transylvania State on December 16 in Lexington,Kentucky, the Coronels lost for the second time in their last three games. Despite the defeat, Chelsea Goodman came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points and was supported by Crystal Claunch's 10 points and six assists. Centre shot just 28.6 percent from the floor for the game (16-of-56 shots).

Third "Elite Eight" Appearance in NCAA Tourney in Last Eight Years -- When B-W played in the "Elite Eight" of the 2005-2006 NCAA Division III National Tournament, it marked the thid time in school history and the third time in the past eight years.

Ten Straight 20-Win Seasons for B-W -- The B-W women have 10 straight seaons with 20 or more victories.

Cheri Harrer is the Winningest Women's Coach in B-W History -- Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer is the winningest women's basketball coach in B-W history with 336 victories. Harrer is 336-120 in her career with a .738 winning percentage and is in her 17th season at B-W.

Current National Rankings -- B-W was ranked third in the last WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Division III poll and eighth in the d3hoops.com poll. The "OFFICIAL" Division III Great Lakes Region poll, which is selected by the NCAA Selection Committee does not come out until after January 1, 2007. The NCAA Selection Committee uses that poll as criterion to decide who gets into the 2007 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
