BEREA, OHIO -- The ninth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball defeated Cleveland cross-town rival Case, 78-50, in the Lou Higgins Center and Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With their win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 2-1 overall while Case lost for the first time this season and fell to 2-1.
The Jackets' were led in scoring by sophomore guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Hts. Holy Name) with 14 points, senior guard Michelle White (Hudson) with 13 and junior forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) with 10. Overall, 12 of the 18 Yellow Jackets who played scored points. Case was led by senior guard Maria Jackson with nine points.
In the first half, there were three early ties with the last one being at 9-9 with 15:00 left when junior Selena Eskinazi-Budge (Beachwood) made the first of two foul shots. B-W then outscored the Spartans 23-13 and took its largest lead of 10 points at 32-22 with 57.79 seconds when Michelle White made a foul shot. B-W also led 32-22 at halftime.
In the second half, Case cut the deficit to as close as four points at 32-28 with 17:26 left in the game when senior guard Dana Dempsey canned a jumper. It was all B-W from that point on as the Yellow Jackets went on runs of 9-0 and 9-1 and overall outscored the Spartans 44-14 to take their biggest lead at 76-42 with 2:44 left in the game when sophomore forward Megan Abbey (Elmore/Woodmore)canned a jump shot.
The B-W women will next play on Wednesday, November 29 when they host traditional rival Oberlin College at 7:30 p.m.

In the nightcap, the Yellow Jacket men (1-1) host Oberlin College (0-2) at 8:00 p.m.
The B-W versus Case women's basketball rivalry is a good one!
The Yellow Jacket women enter this game with a 1-1 record following a runner-up finish last weekend at the Hope College Tipoff Tournament in Holland, Michigan. B-W defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 68-50, in its season-opener on Nov. 17, but the ninth-ranked Yellow Jackets (d3hoops.com preseason national poll) lost to No.4-ranked and host Hope, 68-66, on a buzzer-beater in the championship game.
Case enters this game with a 2-0 mark as it brought home a tournament championship trophy last weekend from the College of Mt. St. Joseph Franklin Savings Tipoff Tournament in Cincinnati. The Spartans beat host Mt. St. Joseph, 57-48, in its season-opener on Nov. 17 and then defeated Denison University, 69-47, in the championship game.
The B-W Versus Case College All-Time Series -- B-W and Case have previously met 27 times in women's basketball with the Yellow Jackets leading the all-time series, 17-10, including a 61-58 victoty in the last meeting a year ago inUniversity Circle on November 22, 2005.
Last Year at Case: B-W -- 61, Case -- 58 -- In last year's game at Case on November 22, 2005, B-W won, 61-58. The Yellow Jackers were led by the trio of current senior shooting guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/ Padua), current sophomore All-OAC player and 2005-2006 Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Holy Name) and graduated All-American point guard Nikki Altenweg with 10 points each.
Case was led by current senior guard Dana Dempsey with a game-high 15 points and current junior forward Ashley Horton had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The game was close throughout the first half and B-W led, 28-26, at the intermission. Following a Dempsey three-pointer to open the second half which gave Case a short-lived , one-pont lead at 29-28, B-W went back on top and built its lead to as many as 11 points. The Jackets' held off the Spartansnear the end of the contest to earn the win.
B-W Information and Probable Starters -- Look for Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach Cheri Harrer to count on veteran players to lead the Yellow Jackets, including Amanda Mondrach. Overall, Harrer plays a multitude of talentwith the backups often times seeing as much or more time than the projected starters.
Mondrach is expected to start at a wing position with 5'9" senior Michelle White (Hudson). On the inside, look for 5'10" junior Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) and 5'8" junior Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local). Sophomore 5'6" point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) will run the offense. Mondrach comes into the game scoring 10.5 ppg. White, a two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player, had 10 points and 10 rebounds at Hope. Flowers averages 13.0 ppg. and had a game-high 16 points versus Hope. Shrider averages 3.5 ppg. and is grabbing a team-leading 8.5 rpg., and had a career-high 13 caroms versus UWEC. Quiring had five points, five steals and four assists in two games last weekend.
Off the bench, look for Steffani Jaworski , 5'8" senior power forward Jessica Latimer (Brooklyn), 5'8" sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/ Madison), 5'8" junior transfer guard Selena E-Budge (Beachwood via Miami of Florida), 6'2" freshman post Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) and 5'2" freshman point guard Katie Arbogast (Stow/ Akron Hoban) all to see action. Budge had the most dramatic impact last weekend as she scored 37 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, passed for three assists, blocked a shot, made five steals and canned 15-of-28 shots from the floor for 53.6 percent. Latimer scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
One player that will miss this weekend's games is sophomore point guard Jessica Butzer (Orrville) with an injury. Butzer has played in the last 16 games and scores 3.3 ppg.
Scouting the Spartans of Case Western Reserve University -- Look for Head Coach Jacki Windon to start 5'7" senior Sana Dempsey, 5'9" junior Mary Herendeen, 5'6" senior Maria Jackson and 5'6" junior LaVonne Sherald in the backcourtand 5'11" junior Ashley Horton in the post.
Dempsey and Herendeen are tied with 5'9" freshman guard Ashleigh Tondo for the scoring lead as the trio each scores 12.0 ppg. Dempsey also tops the team with five three-pointers and Herendeen has four. Horton scores 8.5 ppg. and grabs 5.5 rpg. Jackson scores 7.5 ppg., grabs 8.0 rpg. and leads the team with seven assists. Sherald scores 1.0 ppg. and grabs 3.0 rpg.
Off the bench look for Windon to count on Tondo, 5'11" sophomore forward Colleen Martin and 5'4" freshman guard Nicole Barnes. In addition to her 12.0 ppg., Tondo tops the team with 9.0 rpg. and six steals and has made 12-of-14 foul shots. Martin scores 3.0 ppg. and grabs 2.5 rpg. and Barnes scores 2.0 ppg. and grabs 3.0 rpg. In addition, 5'10" freshman forward Kristyn Atkins and 5'7" freshman guard Kendall McCay may see action.
In B-W's First Game at the Hope (Mich.) College Tournament: B-W -- 68, Wisconsin-Eau Claire -- 50 -- Junior transfer guard Selena E-Budge scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds in her first game as a Yellow Jacket as B-W defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 68-50, in the first round of the Hope (Mich.) College Tipoff Tournament. The Jackets' led by as many as 19 points in the first half and the UWEC Bluegolds never got closer than 12 points in the second half. In addition to Budge, junior forward Carly Flowers scored 10 points and junior forward Stacia Shrider had a game-high 13 rebounds.
In B-W's Second Game at the Hope (Mich.) College Tip-Off Tournament: Hope -- 68, B-W -- 66 on November 18in Hope, Michigan -- Hope senior guard Julie Henderson canned a jumper with two second left in the game as fourthranked Hope held off and beat ninth-ranked B-W, 68-66, in the championship game of the Hope Tipoff Tournament in Holland, Michigan. B-W junior transfer Selena E-Budge had made a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 66-66 and preceeded Henderson's heroics. Despite the loss, junior forward Carly Flowers led B-W with 16 points, Budge had 15 and sophomore guard Amanda Mondrach had 12.
In Case's Last Game at the College of Mount St. Joseph Franklin Savings Tipoff Tournament in Cincinnati: Case -- 69, Denison -- 47 -- The Spartans defeated Denison University, 69-47, in the championship game of the College of Mount St. Joseph's Franklin Savings Tipoff Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio. Case also beat host Mt. St. Joseph, 57-48, in its first game. In the win over Denison, Case was led by senior guard Dana Dempsey with a game-high 21 points, including four three-pointers. In addition, junior guard Mary Herendeen had 14 points, senior guard Maria Jackson had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists and junior forward Ashley Horton had 10 points and five rebounds.
Yellow Jacket ChatterB-W Picked to Win the 2006-2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Title by the OAC Coaches -- B-W was picked by the Ohio Athletic Conference basketball coaches to win the OAC Tournament title in 2006-2007. The Yellow Jackets received eight of a possible nine first place votes and 80 points. OAC rivals Wilmington College (71 points), Capital University (64 points) and Otterbein College (60 points) are viewed by the OAC coaches as challengers.
B-W Picked High Nationally in Preseason Polls -- In two Division III preseason national polls, the Yellow Jackets are tabbed to finish sixth by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) and ninth on the d3hoops.com Web site.
Jackets' Will Miss Cotter This Season -- B-W will play this season without the services of 5'8" junior swing player Alyson Cotter (Salem/ Senior) who will study abroad this winter. A year ago, Cotter scored 7.0 ppg., grabbed 3.7 rpg., made 25 three-pointers and canned 87.5 percent from the charity stripe on 42-of-48 attempts. Look for junior and transfer Selena E-Budge and sophomore Leah Mottayaw to be asked to pick up the slack.
The 2005-2006 OAC Regular Season Title -- B-W has won six of the past eight Ohio Athletic Conference regular season titles, including three straight. This is the first OAC outright title for B-W since 2000-2001.
