BEREA, OHIO --The Capital Crusaders outscored 12th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College 14-6 in overtime and beat the Yellow Jackets, 83-75, in a women's basketball game this afternoon (Saturday, January 20, 2007) at the Capital Center in Columbus.
Capital advances to 12-4 overall and 8-2 in the OAC and is now tied with the Yellow Jackets for second place and two games back of league-leader Wilmington College (10-0). With the loss, B-W falls to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the OAC.
Capital was led by sophomore guard Caitlin Graessle with a career-high 24 points, freshman guard Kristen Richardson had 18 and sophomore forward Caitlin Elsass had 15 markers. For the Yellow Jackets, sophomore guard Amanda Mondrach (Parma/Parma Heights Holy Name) led th way with 17 points and junior guard Selena Eskinnazi-Budge(Beachwood) added 16 points and junor forward Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) had 11 points.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early seven-point lead at 12-5 with 17:21 left when junior forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/Warren Local) made a short jump shot. The Crusaders climbed back to tie the Yellow Jackets at 21-21 with 8:52 left in the first half when Elsass made two foul shots. The Crusaders then built their lead to four points at 40-36 with 1:18 left when Graessle made a three-pointer.
In the second half, Capital surged to a 10-point lead at 52-42 with 16:19 left in regulation when Richardson mad a jumper. The Yellow Jackets were chasing the Crusaders for the entire second half and tied the game three times with the final time coming at 609-all when Eskinazi-Budge made a three-pointer with six seconds left.
In overtime, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a two-point lead when senior forward Jessica Latimer (Brooklyn) scored with 3:55 left in the game. The Crusaders then outscored B-W 14-4 the rest of the way to claim the win.
The Yellow Jacket women next play on Wednesday, January 24 when they host OAC arch-rival Mount Union College at 7:30 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.

This is the first game of the second half of the OAC regular season schedule.

The Pregame Setup -- The nationally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College women's basketball team will travel to Columbus to play its arch-rival, the Capital University Crusaders, in a key Ohio Athletic Conference game as both teams begin the second round of OAC regular season competition.
The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 14-2 overall and 8-1 OAC record following their 74-50 win against Heidelberg College on Tuesday in the Rudolph Upsrpung Gymnasiuym in Berea. B-W is currently in second place in the OAC and one game behind league-leader Wilmington College. The Jackets' have won 13 of their last 14 contests overall.
Capital enters this game at 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the OAC following its 77-40 victory against Marietta College on Wednesday in Marietta. The Crusaders have won five straight games and eight of their last nine overall. Capital also has played three overtime contests in its last eight games.
The B-W Versus Capital All-Time Series -- B-W and Capital have previously met 52 times in women's basketball with the Crusaders leading the all-time series, 35-17, but the Yellow Jackets won the first meeting this season with a 53-50 decision in Berea on December 2, 2006. Capital's last win was a 49-47 victory in Berea on February 25, 2006 in the OAC Tournament Championship Game. On the inside, look for 5'10" junior Carly Flowers (North Baltimore) and 5'8" junior forward Jessica Lattimer (Brooklyn). Sophomore 5'6" point guard Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Holy Name) will run the offense. Flowers leads the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game and in both assists with 38 and steals with 41. She also grabs 5.4 rebounds per game and shoots 55.5 percent from the floor (86-of-155 attempts). Mondrach, an All-OAC player and 2005-2006 OAC Freshman of the Year, averages 8.8 ppg. and has 22 assists and 15 steals. White, a two-time All-OAC player and Academic All-OAC, scores 7.7 ppg., grabs 3.9 rpg., shoots 55.4 percent from the floor (46-of-83) and tied for the team lead with 17 blocked shots. Latimer scores 5.9 ppg., pulls down 4.1 rpg. and shoots 58.9 percent from the floor (33-of-56). Quiring averages 4.6 ppg., second the team with 34 assists and has 12 steals.
Off the bench, look for 5'6'' senior Academic All-OAC guard Steffani Jaworski (Parma/ Padua), 5'8" junior power forward Stacia Shrider (Marietta/ Warren Local), 5'8" sophomore guard Leah Mottayaw (Mansfield/ Madison), Selena Eskinazi-Budge, 6'2" freshman post Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty), Jessica Butzer and 5'5" freshman point guard Sandra Busser (Parma/Padua) all to see action. Jaworski averages 4.0 ppg. and is first with 11 three-pointers. Shrider scores 6.6 ppg., leads the team with 6.1 rpg. and has 29 assists and 25 steals. Mottayaw scores 3.3 ppg. and is third on the squad with nine three-pointers. Busser scores 2.9 ppg. Eskinazi-Budge is second on the team in scoring at 9.4 ppg, grabs, 3.4 rpg. and is second with 30 steals. Butzer has played in 11 games and is scoring 4.6 ppg. and has 14 assists. Scouting the Crusaders of Capital University -- Look for Head Coach Dixie Jeffers to start 5'10" sophomore forward Daniele Manalac, 5'6" sophomore guard Caitlin Graessle, 5'7" freshman guard Abbey Winland, 5'11" sophomore Heather McAlpin and 5'11" sophomore Caitlin Elsass. Elsass tops the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg., grabs 6.5 rpg., shoots 57.1 percent from the floor on 72-of-126 attempts and has 17 steals. McAlpin scores 9.7 ppg., grabs 4.5 rpg. and tops the team with 40 assists. Manalac scores 7.5 ppg., grabs 4.7 rpg., has 36 assists and 33 steals and shoots 83.3 percent from the foul line. Winland scores 2.1 ppg. and 2.5 rpg. and has started twice this season, including Wednesday at Marietta. Graessle has started 11 games and scores 8.1 ppg. and has canned 21 three-pointers.

In B-W's Last Game versus Heidelberg on January 16 in Berea, Ohio: Baldwin-Wallace -- 74, Heidelberg 50 -- In B-W's last game, a 74-50 victory against the Heidelberg College Student Princes in the Ursprung Gym in Berea, Carly Flowers led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points. In addition, Selena Eskinazi-Budge and Michelle White each had 10 points. Key to the victory included shooting 58 percent from the field on 29-of-50 attempts and 75 percent from the foul line (nine-of-12 shooting) and passing for 22 assists in 29 made baskets. Defensively, B-W forced Heidelberg to make 22 turnovers. Twelve of the 15 Yellow Jackets who dressed for the game scored, including 5'10" freshman forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye), who scored a career-high seven points in nine minutes of action.
In Capital's Last Game versus Marietta on January 17 in Marietta, Ohio: Capital -- 77, Marietta -- 40 -- In Capital's last game, a 77-40 victory versus Marietta College in Marietta, the Crusaders were led in scoring by Caitlin Elsass with 14 points and Tiffany Withers came off the bench to contribute 10. The Crusaders led 41-20 at halftime and cruised to their victory. Marietta did not have a double-figure scorer.
