BW Women's Basketball Team Beats Oberlin, 71-50
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Oberlin College tonight, 71-50, in the first round of the Greater Cleveland College Tip-Off Tournamentat the Rudoph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. BW, 1-0 overall, will now advance to tomorrow's championship game at 4:00 p.m. and will play the winner's between Case Western Reserve University and Notre Dame College of Ohio.
The BW attack was led by sophomore backup guard Stephanie Musser with 13 points and senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Sarah Gordon with 10 markers. Despite its loss, Oberlin placed four players in double figures, led by senior guard Sonja Spencer with a game-high 14 points.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets led by as many as 17 points at 35-18 with 1:10 left in the half when senior All-OAC guard Natalie Winkelfoos canned a three-pointer. BW also led 35-18 at the intermission. In the second half, the BW extended its lead to as many as 26 points at 51-25 with 10:36 left in the game when Gordon nailed a three-pointer.
For the game, BW made 28 of 70 shots for 40 percent compared to Oberlin's 19 of 54 for 35.2%. BW also outrebounded the Yeomen, 51-32.
