BW Beats Marietta, 68-53, in Berea
In addition to Gordon and Winkelfoos, junior guard Karissa Kusick (Chicora, Pa./Karns City H.S.) had 12 points for the sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets. Sophomore forwards Beth Bakos led the Pioneers with a game-high 16 points. Sarah Tarbox also had12 points and Hannah Heintzman 10.
In the first half, BW led by as many as 14 points, at 40-26, with 1.4 seconds left before the intermission when Gordon scored on layup. In the second half, BW extended its lead to as many as 21 points, at 51-30 with 14:42 left when Gordon again scored on a layup.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on December 27 when they travel to San Diego, California to play in the Surf & Slam Tournament. BW will play Coe College of Iowa in its first game.

The sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace University YELLOW JACKET women's basketball team will host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College on Saturday, December 21, 2002 in Berea at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium at 3:00 p.m. This will be the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader with Marietta. The Pregame Notes -- The sixth-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team will look to rebound from its first loss of the season on Wednesday when it hosts Marietta College in the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
BW enters the game with a 6-1 overall and 2-1 OAC record following its 66-63 loss on Wednesday at Mount Union College in Alliance. The loss was the first of the season for BW and broke a six-game winning streak.
Marietta enters this game with a 5-3 overall and 1-2 OAC record following its 59-43 loss to Capital in Bexley on Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets lost their first game of the 2002-2003 season when they were upset by the Mount Union College Purple Raiders in Alliance, 66-63. Despite the loss, BW was led by Natalie Winkelfoos' 16 points, including canning four of five three-pointers. In addition, Sarah Gordon scored 14 points and Holly Koepp scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. A key in the loss was Mt. The Pioneers dropped to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the OAC when they lost 59-43 to Capital University in Bexley on Wednesday. Despite the loss, the Pioneers were led by Beth Bakos who had a team-high 14 points and five rebounds. Sarah Gordon tied a single-game record for three-pointers made in a game with six and the best three-point shooting percentage at 100 percent. Graduated all-time leading scorer Jill Smith also had six treys on two separate occassions.As a team, the 15 three-pointers broke a record. The previous best was 11 against Ohio Northern in 1995-96.

The BW women are ranked sixth nationally this week in the third weekly national poll for Division III by the d3hoops.com Internet Web site. The Yellow Jackets are also ranked 21st nationally by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in its preseason poll.The Difference -- After seven games, the Yellow Jackets are outscoring the opposition by 16.9 points per game.
BW is seeking a seventh straight 20-win season in 2002-2003. The Yellow Jackets have appeared in six of the last seven NCAA Division III National Tournaments. BW has appeared in each of the last five OAC Championship Games. In both 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, BW advanced to the "Elite" Eight of the Division III National Tournament.
