Serena Farage Named as OAC Players-of-the-Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior 197-pound wrestler Brian Haines (Amanda/ Teays Valley) and sophomore women’s basketball forward Serena Farage (Medina/ Buckeye) have been named as this week’s (Monday, February 4, 2008) Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, respectively.

Haines won his award for posting a perfect 3-0 record last week, including a 2-0 mark and an individual title at last Saturday’s, Feb. 2 and 22nd Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Haines shut out John Carroll University’s Scott Marhofer, 6-0. He then beat Brockport State’s (N.Y.) Austin Anthony in the semifinals and pinned Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College’s Alex Cressley in 6:37 in the championship match at the Summa tourney.  For the season, Haines is now 11-11 overall.
 
Haines and the Yellow Jacket wrestlers are now idle until Tuesday, Feb. 12 when they host OAC foe Wilmington College on Seniors’ Day in Berea at 7:30 p.m.

, a six-footer, won her award for coming off the bench and adding spark to the Yellow Jacket attack in wins against Mount Union College, 65-47, in Berea on Jan. 30 and in a first place showdown win last Saturday, Feb. 2 versus Ohio Northern University, 62-56.
 
For the week, Farage scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action. She made all 11 of her field goal attempts and was four-of-seven from the foul line.
 
In the win versus Mt. Union, Farage made all five of her field goal attempts and all three of her foul shots and added a steal in 11 minutes of court time. She made all six of her field goals but just one of four foul shots, grabbed a career-high six rebounds and blocked two shots in the key win at ONU that moved B-W into a first place tie.
 
This week, Farage and the Yellow Jacket women, 17-2 overall and ranked 21st in Division III in the latest WBCA/ USA TODAY poll, play at Heidelberg College in Tiffin on Tuesday, Feb. 5 and then host Wilmington at home on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3:00 p.m.
