BEREA, OHIO -- The Yellow Jacket volleyball team split a pair of games on day one of the Wittenberg National Tournament on Friday.
In the first game, the Yellow Jackets defeated Elmherst College, 3-2. (30-28, 30-26, 25-30, 23-30, 16-14) Cassie Palmer (Greenwich/South Central) had a team high of 19 kills, followed by Emily Bowen (Tiffin/Columbian) with 15 kills. Kim Stoll (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the Yellow Jacket squad with 22 digs, followed by Kari Kuhn (Amherst/Steele) with 16 digs. Kuhn had 3 of the team's 6 serve aces.
In game two, B-W lost to No. 6 nationally ranked Wittenberg University, 3-1. (30-23, 28-30, 19-30, 19-30) Palmer led the team with 16 kills. Kuhn had 17 digs to lead the Yellow Jackets, closely followed by Bowen with 16, and Stoll with 15. Tess Papcke (Cleveland/St. Augustine) debuted in her second game as a freshman for the Yellow Jackets with one kill, two solo blocks, and one block assist.
B-W is now 11-10 on the year and will conclude the Wittenberg Tournament tomorrow (Oct. 11) beginning with a game against Mount St. Joseph at 9:30 a.m.
