BEREA, OHIO -- The 20th national ranked Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Augustana (Ill.) University 3-0 (30-14, 30-14, 30-17) and lost to #2 national ranked Washington (Mo.) University 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-22) on the opening day of the Washington (Mo.) University Invitational in St. Louis, Mo.
With the split, the Yellow Jackets are now 19-3 overall and 5-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Augustana dropped to 2-17 overall with its loss and Washington improved to 16-1overall.
In the first match of the day against Augustana (Ill.) University, senior All-American setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) recorded a team-high of eight kills and 21 set assists. Both Camp and sophomore middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./ Mount St. Mary's Academy) contributed three service aces. Defensively, sophomore libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) led the team with 14 digs, while sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic) had 10. DePeters tallied a team-high number of four blocks.
In the second match against # 2 ranked Washington (Mo.) University, junior All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) recorded six kills, while teammates DePeter and Selgo both added five. Camp contributed 22 set assists, and defensively Hills and Marten both registered 12 digs. Camp, DePeters and sophomore middle hitter Brook Hinkle (Wellington) all recorded four blocks.
The Yellow Jackets continue play at the Washington (Mo.) University Invitational tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CST when they take on Principia (Ill.) College. They will play a second match at 12:15 p.m. CST against Fontbonne (Mo.) College to conclude the invitational.
