The Baldwin-Wallace Volleyball Team Lost a Close Game to 10th Ranked Ohio

BEREA, OHIO --The Baldwin-Wallace volleyball team lost a close game to 10th ranked Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University, 3-2.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 16-8 overall and 5-1 in the OAC while Ohio Northern improves to 20-6 overal and 6-1 in the OAC. B-W lost by the scores of 30-24, 30-28, 19-30, 20-30, and 12-15.

Beginning strong by winning the first two matches of the night, the Yellow Jackets fell short in the end. Despite the loss, the Yellow Jackets recorded 66 kills, 111 digs, 24 blocks, and nine service aces. Leading the way on offense was freshman outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic) with 18 digs, followed by freshman middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mount St. Mary Academy) with 12, and senior All-OAC Emily Albanese (Mentor), sophomore All-OAC Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy), and freshman middle hitter Brooke Hinkle (Wellington) all with 10. Junior setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) recorded 51 set assists. Recording a team high of service aces was Albanese with four followed by Camp with two.

Defensively, Camp led the team in digs with 28, followed by sophomore libero Maggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) with 24, Albanese with 19, Selgo with 18, and Hills with 17. Leading the team in blocks was Hinkle with eight total (two solo and six assists), followed by DePeters and Hills each totaling four, and Albanese and Camp each totaling three.

The Yellow Jackets return to action this Thursday (Oct. 20) with a home game against OAC rival Capital University at 7:00 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium. They will then travel to Muskinghum on Saturday (Oct. 22) to continue their play in the OAC, the game starts at 1:00 p.m.
