BEREA, OHIO -- The volleyball team shut out its first two opponents, Kalamazoo (Mich.) and John Carroll, 3-0, during the first day of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament.
In game one, Baldwin-Wallace defeated Kalamazoo (Mich.) College in straight sets, 30-23, 30-28, 30-24. Senior three-time All-OAC and two-time All-Great Lakes Region middle hitter Cassie Palmer (Greenwich/South Central) led the team in kills with 29 and also total attempts with 61. Freshman Kristen Habegger (Oregon) had a team-leading 24 set assists including eight digs. Kim Stoll (Norwalk/St. Paul) contributed with a team-high 24 digs.
In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets continued their winning ways with another three set shutout over Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University, 30-26, 30-20, 30-19. Cassie Palmer (Greenwich/South Central), Laura Leach (Norwalk/Senior) and Emily Bowen (Tiffin/Columbian) all posted double-digit dig performances for the Lady Jackets with 12, 11 and 10 respectively. Pacing the yellow and brown for the second time in as many games, with 35 set assists, was Kristin Habegger (Oregon). The ladies will be back in action tomorrow morning against Grove City (Pa.) College at 10:00 and then again in the play-off round at either 2:00 or 4:00 depending on the outcome of game one.
