BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace volleyball team defeated cross-town and Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University, 3-0, tonight (Oct. 11). 

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-7 overall and 3-0 in the OAC, while John Carroll University dropped to 7-17 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. B-W won by the scores of 30-26, 30-16, 30-21.

The Yellow Jackets played well in each match starting the first two matches off with 4-0 runs and capturing the win during the third match of the game with an eight point run. Leading the way for the Yellow Jacket's offense was freshman outside hitter, Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic) with 12 kills, followed closely by sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) with 11, and senior All-OAC Emily Albanese (Mentor) with ten. Junior setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) recorded 36 set assists and led the team in service aces with three. With an impressive team total of ten service aces, both Albanese and sophomore libaro Maggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) contributed two each.

Leading the defense was Marten with 15 digs, followed by Selgo with 13, Albanese with eight, and sophomore defensive specialest Toni Ward (Mogadore/ Field) with seven. Hills recoreded four total blocks (one solo and three assists) to lead the team, followed by Albanese, freshman middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mount St. Mary Academy), and freshman middle hitter Brooke Hinkle (Wellington) all with two total blocks.

The Yellow Jackets will continue OAC play this Thursday (Oct. 13) when they travel to Wilmington, for a 7:00 p.m. game, followed by a trip to Marietta on Saturday (Oct. 15), for a 7:00 p.m. game. They will return home on Tuesday (Oct. 18) when they host OAC rival Ohio Northern in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
