Cross-Town Rival John Carroll in Berea, 3-1
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team stayed unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play as the Yellow Jackets defeated OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 3-1, tonight at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With its win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-12 overall aand aa perfect 6-0 in the OAC. With its loss, JCU fell to 9-15 overall and 0-6 in the OAC. B-W won by the scores of 30-19, 32-30, 25-30 and 30-18.
For the match, senior three-time All-OAC and two-time All-Great Lakes middle hitter Cassie Palmer (Greenwich/ South Central) led the front row with 27 kills and seven blocks and hit .396 for the four games. She also had two service aces and seven defensive digs. Palmer's 27 kills also extends her school career record in that catagory to 1,683.
Supporting Palmer on the front row were two-time All-OAC and 2002 All-Region rightside player Emily Bowen (Tiffin Columbian) and sophomore outside hitter Emily Albanese (Mentor) with 19 and 13 kills, respectively. Bowen also contributed 25 digs, four blocks, four assists and an ace.
The offense was led by senior setter Angie Elser (Wooster / Northwestern). Elser had 63 set assists (15.75 per game) and also contributed 17 digs and four kills.
The back row was led by freshman libero Kim Stoll (Norwalk St. Paul). Stoll had a team-leading 29 digs and a pair of set assists. In addition, junior Kari Kuhn (Amherst/ Marion Steele) had 14 digs.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Westerville to play Otterbein College in an OAC match at 1:00 p.m.
