TIFFIN, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg College, 3-2, tonight (October 25) in Tiffin, Ohio.
With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 18-9 overall and 7-2 in the OAC, while Heidelberg falls to 16-14 overall and 3-7 in the OAC. B-W won by scores of 30-14, 22-30, 28-30, 30-24, and 15-11.
The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toldeo/ St. Ursula Academy) with a total 25 kills leading to an outstanding hitting percentage of .423. Hills also recorded three service aces on offense. Following Hills in kills was freshman outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic) with 15, freshman middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mt. Saint Mary Academy) with 14, and senior All-OAC rightside hitter Emily Albanese (Mentor) with 12. Albanese also recorded three service aces. Junior setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) recorded an amazing 63 set assists.
Defensively for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) recorded 32 digs, followed closely by Hills with 31. Leading the team in total blocks was Camp with seven (one solo and six assists), followed by DePeters with six (one solo and five assists).
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Springfield, Ohio for the Wittenberg Invitational this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 28-29), playing their first game of the tournament at 2:00 p.m. followed by a second game at 6:30 p.m on Friday. They will continue play on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will then return home for an OAC Championship quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium.
