BEREA, OHIO-- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team opened day two of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament with a convincing 3-0 win over OAC rival Heidelberg. The Yellow Jackets improve to 6-1 overall, while Heidelberg suffers its first loss of the season and falls to 7-1.
The Yellow Jackets swept the match in three games, winning by the scores of 30-27, 30-24, and 30-23. Sophomore Brooke Hinkle (Wellington) led the offensive charge with 11 kills. Junior All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/St. Ursula Academy) contributed 10 kills and sophomore Maria DePeters (Williamsville N.Y./Mt. St. Mary Academy) added eight kills. Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/Senior) was credited for three service aces. Senior All-American setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/St. Paul) added a match-high 35 assists.
Defensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by Marten with 18 digs, followed by freshman Vicky Benedejcic (Chardon) with 13. Hinkle accounted for five blocks, one solo and four assisted.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets stand in first place in Pool A standings and will advance to the championship match at 4:00 p.m. B-W will play either John Carrol University or St. Mary's (Ind.) College.
