Baldwin-Wallace College Opens Up The Marcia French Memorial Tournament With Two Wins

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team improve to 5-1 on the season with a pair of 3-0 victories over Kalamazoo (Mich.) College and Allegheny (Pa.) College during the first day of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament in Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, Ohio.

 In the first match of the day, B-W defeated Kalamazoo by the score of 30-26, 30-27 and 30-24.  Junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/St. Ursula Academy) led the Yellow Jackets offensively with 10 kills and also contributed 10 defensive digs.  Senior Division III All-American setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/St. Paul) contributed 32 set assists for the Jackets.  Sophomore Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Acad.) tallied nine kills while sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Catholic) registered seven kills. Defensively, junior libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/Senior) led the team with 25 digs.

In the second match of the day, B-W defeated Allegheny by the score of 30-19, 30-20 and 30-20.  Selgo led the Yellow Jackets with 10 kills and Camp led the Jackets offense with a match-high 35 set assists.  Marten again led the Jackets’ defensive with 23 digs and Hills added 18 digs.  With today’s wins, B-W improves to 5-1 overall.

B-W will resume play tomorrow (Saturday September 10) in Day Two of action from the Marcia French Memorial Tournament taking on OAC rival Heidelberg at 10:00 a.m. in Ursprung Gymnasium.  B-W is the defending tournament champions.
